Lexi Landsman has been appointed as the new Development Executive, Unscripted, at BBC Studios Productions Australia. This role comes in the wake of a notably successful period for the company, where she will join Deb Spinocchia‘s team. Landsman will focus on developing new formats and original content across various genres including factual, entertainment, and reality.
Previously serving as Head of Development, Unscripted, at Fremantle Australia, Landsman was instrumental in greenlighting several new series, such as Tony Armstrong’s Extra-Ordinary Things on ABC. Before her tenure at Fremantle, she held a senior development producer position at ITV Studios, contributing to the launch and success of shows like Alone on SBS, My Mum, Your Dad on Channel 9, My Kitchen Rules on Channel 7, and Sydney Airport on SBS. Her extensive experience also includes a decade at the Seven Network, where she was involved in the production and development of acclaimed series such as Border Security, Emergency Call, and World’s Richest Dogs.
Kylie Washington, General Manager and Creative Director at BBC Studios Productions Australia, praised Landsman‘s extensive background and achievements:
“Lexi is an accomplished and experienced television executive with an in-depth knowledge of the global unscripted marketplace and a proven track record of adapting and refreshing existing formats as well as developing original programmes, and I’m delighted that she is joining the team.
Our unscripted business has gone from strength to strength under Deb’s leadership and now is the right time to further bolster the team to continue our growth.”
In her own words, Landsman expressed her excitement about her new role:
“I am thrilled to be joining the BBC Studios team, who have grown exponentially over the past five and a half years, with the creation of 600 hours of television. I look forward to working with Deb and Kylie, and continuing their expansion of the unscripted slate of innovative and bold ideas, spanning factual, reality and entertainment.”
The unscripted division at BBC Studios Productions Australia is actively producing several projects including Top Gear Australia for Paramount+, Dancing With the Stars for Seven Network, and Mastermind for SBS. Additionally, the popular quiz show The 1% Club has aired its second series on Seven Network and a third series has been commissioned. The Great Australian Bake Off S8 is set to air on Lifestyle/Binge later this year, while original titles like The MatchMakers and Ray Martin: The Last Goodbye are planned for future release on SBS.
On the scripted front, the company is filming the local Death in Paradise spin-off Return to Paradise, in collaboration with Red Planet Pictures for ABC and the BBC. The Office Australia, co-produced with Bunya Entertainment, will premiere on Prime Video later this year.
Furthermore, BBC Studios Productions Australia recently expanded by acquiring Werner Film Productions, which will continue to operate as an independent label.
