Despite casting currently taking place for the 2027 season of Farmer Wants A Wife, Seven has pulled the plug on the production, surprising those working on the show.

Sources reveal crew members were told Friday.

After initial reporting by TV Blackbox and The Daily Mail saying the show had been cancelled, Seven issued a short statement to TV Blackbox this morning.

Angus Ross, Managing Director, Television and Streaming said: “The show has not been cancelled. Seven will produce the next series of Farmer Wants a Wife in 2027.”

Seven has now confirmed to this outlet production has been postponed, making a 2027 series unlikely.

What is clear is that crew who were booked to shoot the next series are now looking for work. This has come from multiple, reliable sources.

Shrinking revenue is playing major havoc with TV production budgets, even though audiences are up for many shows year-on-year.

Advertisers continue to favour new media, paying little attention to the big audiences television delivers each night. With that falling revenue, budgets are being slashed, and there is simply not enough money to fund as many productions.

Tough decisions need to be made.

As previously reported, it was expected The Voice would be cancelled, but looks to have been saved after a strong season. Although TV Blackbox understands the next series will not air until 2028, as Seven stretches every dollar while holding onto big brand shows.

It looks like this could also be the case with Farmer’s budget being pushed into the 27/28 financial year.

Seven seems to be keeping formats on ice and holding onto the rights, but not necessarily airing its shows every year

On the ratings front, Farmer still has a lot of life left in it. The network claims the 2026 season reached 8.3 million people on Seven and 7plus and attracted an average national total TV audience of 1.27 million, up 22% on last year. Among people 25 to 54, the series was up 27% year-on-year.

With claims like that, you can imagine why the production team is shocked network executives stopped production without warning.

But it’s an expensive show, with multiple crews having to travel to remote locations to film.

Seven will officially announce its 2027 schedule at its annual Upfront event on October 22.

  1. Needs to go back to channel 9 and go back to the original format that made this show a success. Needs to get rid of the drama and catching up with the other farmers. In the original format none of the farmers caught up until the end when they had chosen their one. They went to her place instead of it being like the bachelor final. They were all genuine as well, and so were the ladies that went on it.

    • Carolyn Hughes totally agree
Bring it back to same format it was when it first started
That would have been back in 2002 thinking 🤔 it was
Looked how many marriages, babies and so on
People were genuine back then not Actors or Influencer’s etc

  2. Disappointing but last few seasons definitely not what it used to be was more like watching MAFS did love this show up u til few seasons ago

  3. It’s probably because the last season was one of the worst seasons ever, the farmers were hugely the worst farmers ever in the history of the show, and the women were just skanks on this season so there where a lot of issues with the season that made it difficult for channel 7 to want to keep it

  4. After the last shit show that was on i think we could blame FWAW for the announcement it maybe done. Not much thought went into the farmers and definitely the ladies or i should say the girls.
One a rodeo rider when did that become farming, one girl that was more intent of building Insta followers.
