“One of the worst bathrooms I’ve seen”: Judges slam Emma and Michelle’s controversial ensuite on My Reno Rules

Tensions erupted on My Reno Rules as contestants Emma and Michelle were dealt a harsh judging blow, with Julia Green labelling their ensuite reveal “one of the worst bathrooms” she had encountered.

The mother-daughter team faced a difficult night after a week marked by time pressure and a risky design direction that failed to resonate with the judges.

Julia Green was blunt in her assessment, criticising the pair’s use of black tiles and questioning the overall cohesion of the space.

“It was so much to process.

I have no idea where this black tile came from.

I cannot see that reflected in anything else throughout the whole house.

It was big, blocky, dark, drab.”

Fellow judge Simon Cohen also delivered a critical verdict, describing the room as “very poor” and conceding he struggled to identify positives.

Earlier warnings from Neale Whitaker about the design direction appeared to ring true, with the judge reiterating concerns that the black tiled nib walls would “feel like a dark tomb” and were the wrong selection.

Despite receiving favourable comments for their study, Emma and Michelle finished with a total of 21.5 out of 30, placing them last on the leaderboard for the week.

The emotional toll was evident following the judging.

“We’re very deflated at the moment,” Michelle said.

Emma added: “Words are super hurtful. Words stick.”

In contrast, Franky and Isaac delivered a significant turnaround, impressing all three judges and achieving the highest score of the season so far, including the first perfect 10 from Neale Whitaker.

“Gentlemen.

This was a huge change from last week’s bedroom.

You not only took on board what we suggested, but you dared to be different.”

Neale Whitaker also praised the improvement.

“I can’t think of the last time I saw such a leap forward in such a short space of time.

It’s extraordinary.”

The duo secured 28.5 out of 30, sending them to the top of the nightly leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Mitch and Shaz maintained strong momentum, with judges commending their confident styling and bold use of colour across their parent’s lounge, ensuite and study.

Julia Green told the pair:

“The personality you’re injecting into these homes is infectious, and I’m here for the ride.

Honestly, I’d give you a job in my business.”

Nathan and Julia experienced mixed feedback, particularly over their hallway. Julia Green criticised it as “beige on beige territory”, while Simon Cohen likened the Venetian plaster wall to “pumice stone”. However, Neale Whitaker supported their minimalist approach, stating: “I disagree with my fellow judges. I liked your hallway.”

By the end of the episode, Mitch and Shaz held onto the overall lead with 50 points, narrowly ahead of Franky and Isaac on 49. Nathan and Julia followed on 45.5, with Emma and Michelle trailing on 42.

With the competition now halfway complete and $1 million at stake, the pressure continues to build as teams prepare for the next interior renovation challenge.

  1. That big mouth spoiled brat and her unfaithful mother need to leave the show
    They are nasty 🤮

  2. House 1 will always lose with that horrid mother/ daughter team, they have no idea about teamwork, not to mention no design taste. What a mix matched house it will be, the poor winners will have lots of fix ups to do 😤
