Binge has released the first trailer for The Postcard Bandit, a new two part original documentary unpacking the true story of Brenden Abbott, one of Australia’s most infamous bank robbers.

The series lands in early January, giving crime fans and industry watchers a compelling look behind a myth built on escapes, heists and headlines.

The Postcard Bandit explores Abbott’s staggering criminal history, from more than forty bank robberies and multiple prison escapes to almost six years on the run.

The series goes further than previous accounts by offering unprecedented access to Abbott himself, marking the first time he has openly discussed his exploits on camera.

It also features interviews with those who chased him, lived with him, or witnessed the fallout, including family members and people on both sides of the law.

Central to the documentary is Abbott’s strained relationship with his son James, who has known his father only through prison visits.

After three decades behind bars, Abbott remains Australia’s longest serving prisoner not convicted of murder, providing a rare angle for viewers beyond the usual cat and mouse narrative.

Produced by Warner Bros International Television Production Australia and directed by Stephen McCallum, the series follows BINGE’s new dramatisation Run, giving audiences both a scripted and documentary view of one of Australia’s most elusive criminal figures.

Both episodes of The Postcard Bandit will be available to stream from 7 January on BINGE, with a Showcase premiere on Foxtel at 8.30pm.
