Golf Enthusiasts Gear Up for the ISPS HANDA Australian Open Broadcast on Channel 9
Australia’s golfing elite are set to dominate the screens on Nine’s Wide World of Sports in the eagerly anticipated ISPS HANDA Australian Open. Scheduled to air live and free from Thursday to Sunday, the prestigious event will be broadcast across the 9Network and streamed on 9Now.
The tournament, boasting a substantial $3.4 million prize purse, will be hosted at both The Australian and The Lakes Golf Clubs in Sydney. Spanning four days, it will feature the Men’s, Women’s, and All Abilities competitions, promising top-tier golfing action.
The event will be brought to life by Nine’s own Mat Thompson, who will provide expert commentary throughout the tournament.
Min Woo Lee, fresh off his triumph at the Australian PGA Championship, is primed for back-to-back victories. However, a formidable field awaits him, including prominent Australians Cameron Smith, Adam Scott, Marc Leishman, Cam Davis, and Lucas Herbert. Notable international players such as European Ryder Cup star Robert MacIntyre and defending champion Adrian Meronk from Poland will also be vying for the title.
Cameron Smith, the 2022 British Open champion, is keen to rebound after a setback at the PGA tournament. Smith shared his aspirations, stating,
“Growing up watching all the greats win the Australian Open makes it a little bit more special to me. It would mean everything to win this tournament. I’ve been close a couple of times, so I want to win this one even more.”
Adam Scott, the 2013 Masters champion, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament.
“This tournament means so much to Australian golfers and it’s great to be back playing on home soil.
The Australian and The Lakes set up nicely for my game and I’d really love to win my second Australian Open this week,” Scott remarked.
In the women’s category, Australia’s recent major winners Minjee Lee and Hannah Green face stiff competition from defending champion Ash Buhai of South Africa and former world No.1 Jiyai Shin from Korea. Australian rising stars Grace Kim, Steph Kyriacou, and Gabi Ruffels are also in the fray.
Hannah Green, poised for the Paris Olympics, shared her excitement about playing in Sydney:
“This is the first time I’m playing a professional tournament in Sydney, so I’m excited.”
