Tonight marks a thrilling moment on SBS as “Fargo” Season 5 debuts, directly from its US release.
The anthology series, a brainchild of Noah Hawley, showcases a remarkable cast in its latest season.
Leading the ensemble are Juno Temple, Jon Hamm, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, alongside other notable talents like David Rysdahl, Joe Keery, Lamorne Morris, Richa Moorjani, Sam Spruell, and Dave Foley.
Set in 2019 across Minnesota and North Dakota, this season of “Fargo” centers around Dorothy ‘Dot’ Lyon, portrayed by Temple. Dot, a conventional Midwestern housewife, finds her life turned upside down due to unexpected events, dragging her back into a past she thought she’d left behind.
Jon Hamm steps into the shoes of Sheriff Roy Tillman of North Dakota. A character of complex moral fiber, Sheriff Roy, who doubles as a rancher and preacher, is driven by the conviction that he is not only the enforcer but also above the law. His quest to find Dot sees him enlisting the aid of Ole Munch (Spruell), a mysterious and elusive figure.
Meanwhile, Dot’s efforts to protect her family from her secretive past are complicated by her naive husband Wayne (Rysdahl), who often turns to his mother, Lorraine Lyon (Leigh). Lorraine, a formidable businesswoman known as the “Queen of Debt”, is openly critical of her son’s marriage. However, when Dot’s actions raise suspicions, Lorraine steps in to support her, sending her top advisor, Danish Graves (Foley), to assist Dot.
As law enforcement in both states gets involved, with Minnesota Police Deputy Indira Olmstead (Moorjani) and North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr (Morris) taking notice, the stakes escalate. Dot, however, is not one to be underestimated, especially when cornered.
Hawley not only helms the series as showrunner, writer, and director but also leads the creative efforts through his production firm, 26 Keys. The season’s first two episodes bear his distinctive writing and directing style. Warren Littlefield, associated with acclaimed series like “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “The Old Man”, joins as an executive producer through The Littlefield Company, alongside Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures, Kim Todd, and the legendary Joel & Ethan Coen. The series, produced by MGM Television and FX Productions, finds its international distribution through Amazon MGM Studios Distribution.
Wow great cast. I’ve been following some of Juno’s career since Vinyl with Bobby cannavale. She’s great. 🙂
