TV Blackbox has learnt that the new food competition series, Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Australia which was originally set to air this year, has now been pushed back until 2024.

Channel 9 originally announced the commissioning of local adaption in 2022, which stars international chef Gordon Ramsay at the helm alongside Janine Allis, founder of Boost Juice Bars and formerly of Shark Tank & The Apprentice Australia, with filming wrapping earlier this year and was promoted as “coming soon” (promo here) a few weeks ago.

Described as a reality competition series where contestants pitch their food or drink business ideas, hoping to catch the attention of their dream investor and make it into the top 14 to battle it out over a series of challenges, with one lucky winner from each team receiving a $250,000 investment and mentorship from Ramsay and Allis respectively.

The original BBC One series (titled Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars) from the UK, aired for 2 seasons in 2022 and 2023, however was axed in July earlier this year after failing to attract a large enough audience for the duration of its time on-air to warrant any further seasons.

The format was also licensed to American television network FOX, who premiered a local version earlier this year and also fronted by Ramsay, who is regularly seen on other cooking series on the same network including MasterChef USA, Hell’s Kitchen and Next Level Chef.

It’s understood that the Australian series, now slated to be part of the Channel 9’s library of programming for 2024, was held over because the show would have aired for the most part outside of the official ratings season which starts in a few weeks and generally goes for 2 months over summer.
