In the lead-up to one of The Block’s most anticipated weeks – bedroom and walk-in robe reveal – tensions were running high among the contestants.
Kyle and Leslie from House No.1 were already reeling from harsh critiques the week before. Missing their two young boys back in Perth, emotions surged, culminating in Kyle’s tearful breakdown. The couple questioned their decision to remain on the show, wondering if the sacrifice was worth the stress.
Meanwhile, Eliza and Liberty, representing House No.5, struggled with internal team dynamics. Their builder, Mark, became a sticking point. Instead of a stonemason for their bedroom’s benchtop, Mark proposed a budget-friendly timber version. This drew criticism from The Block’s supervisors, Keith and Dan, and exacerbated tensions between the Victorian sisters and their builder. Mark’s demand for the duo to submit their following week’s plans early further stirred the pot.
Despite the emotional rollercoaster, all couples managed to present their finished rooms for judging at Scotty’s HQ. The ever-enthusiastic Scott Cam uplifted the mood by reminding everyone they were halfway through the competition.
House No.1 spent a total of $32,793. The judges appreciated the bed head’s textured design, although Darren pointed out its potential safety risk. Marty noted the space’s photogenic qualities but questioned its liveability. All three judges, including Shaynna, criticised the room’s spatial planning, particularly the undersized walk-in-robe.
Over at House No.2, Leah and Ash had an expenditure of $32,371. The judges were in awe of the ambitious curved ceiling. However, they felt the room lacked functional furniture, and Marty expressed reservations about the walk-in-robe’s burgundy tone.
House No.3 saw Kristy and Brett shelling out $42,825. Marty praised their bright aesthetic, though there was consensus about the underwhelming lighting plan. Shaynna felt their master suite was a breath of fresh air after the initial two houses.
Steph and Gian of House No.4 invested a whopping $44,064, and it paid off. Touted as The Block’s most extensive bedroom and robe to date, all three judges were smitten. The opulent Kinsman wardrobes and marble benchtop in the walk-in robe were standout features. The spaciousness and dual functionality of the bedroom left the judges using the word ‘wow’ multiple times.
Lastly, Eliza and Liberty from House No.5 managed their budget cautiously at $23,952. The unfinished ceiling paint was a letdown, but Shaynna found solace in the bedroom’s art. With a modern colour palette and ample storage, Marty hinted that while they may not win individual room contests, the sisters had a competitive edge in the overall game.
