In a rare move of transparency, Channel 9 has officially confirmed the discontinuation of its primetime adventure show, RUSH.
Unlike other networks that often employ euphemisms such as “on hiatus” or “being rested”, Channel 9 has candidly acknowledged the series’ underwhelming performance.
RUSH was initially pitched as a “global adventure program”, wherein three teams of Australians would be transported to various international locales. On arrival, they’d be equipped with noise-cancelling headphones and blackout goggles, depriving them of their senses.
Their objective was to navigate through nine different countries by completing a set of challenges, all while racing against time and each other.
However, comparisons were quickly drawn between this new offering and the well-established reality show, The Amazing Race.
Unfortunately for Channel 9, the similarities didn’t extend to ratings. RUSH debuted to a lukewarm reception, capturing the attention of only 301,000 metro viewers. As the episodes rolled out, the numbers further dwindled.
Despite this setback, all is not lost. There seems to be a silver lining for David Genat, the show’s host and ex-Survivor participant.
A representative for Channel 9 expressed their positive experience working with him telling TV Blackbox,
“We loved working with him and we look forward to ongoing discussions for future projects.”
I can think of other shows I’d rather get axed. I enjoyed Rush.
