The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are primed to air on 10 Peach with a mere one-hour delay AEST, and a primetime replay will follow on Channel 10.
The three-hour musical extravaganza is slated to be hosted by rap and pop sensation Nicki Minaj from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
This year, the VMAs promise an array of awards and performances. Shakira is lined up to receive the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, while Diddy is set to be honoured with the Global Icon Award.
As for the night’s live performances, viewers are in for a treat. The line-up features a diverse range of artists from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion to Demi Lovato, Lil Wayne, and Olivia Rodrigo. International talents like South Korean boy bands TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Stray Kids will also grace the main stage, along with a myriad of other artists.
Of note this year is the dominance of women and non-binary artists in major award categories. The nominations, released last month, have sparked discussions for their strong focus on underrepresented voices in the industry. In the coveted Video of the Year category, all the nominees are women or non-binary artists, including big names like Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, and Miley Cyrus.
Taylor Swift is the artist to beat with a staggering 11 nominations this year. Close on her heels is SZA with eight nods, continuing the trend of strong female presence.
The voting process for the VMAs is one that involves fan participation. The public can still cast their votes for select categories on the MTV website.
For those keen on early performances, the event’s pre-show will showcase Sabrina Carpenter and rapper NLE Choppa, while Kaliii, Reneé Rapp, and The Warning will perform on the Extended Play Stage.
The 2023 MTV VMAs promise an unforgettable night, replete with performances, accolades, and a strong representation from women and non-binary artists.
