This week on Kitchen Cabinet, Annabel travels to Melbourne to sit down with Senator Lidia Thorpe – elected as a Green, and now sitting as an Independent.Â
Over her short career in the Senate, Lidia Thorpe has become one of the Parliament’s most recognisable faces.
A teenage Mum, Thorpe escaped an abusive relationship and grew up through Indigenous politics to enter first the Victorian Parliament and then the Senate.
Noted for her fiery ways, Thorpe also has a ribald sense of humour.Â
Introduced by Crabb in 2011, Kitchen Cabinet involves the host visiting politicians’ homes to cook a meal, with Crabb supplying dessert.
The upcoming series promises insight into the lives of eight politicians, including former Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews, Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie, Greens Senator Jordon Steele-John, and Labor Minister Anika Wells.
Crabb, a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery since 1999, commented on the changing nature of Parliament, noting its increasing diversity.
KITCHEN CABINET originally ran for six seasons between 2012-2016, featuring over 40 politicians from Prime Ministers to backbenchers. For enthusiasts looking to recap, previous episodes are available with intriguing politician insights.
Behind the scenes, the production team includes Director Stamatia Maroupas, Executive Producer Madeleine Hawcroft, Producer Pauline Ernesto, Associate Producer Brett Worthington, and Editors Elizabeth Graetz & Sally Moran.
