In a heart-rending episode of New Leash On Life, airing on Tuesday, 1 August at 8.00pm on ABC and iview, a Perth-based couple in need of canine companionship meet their match with hosts Joel Creasey and Laura V.
Ian, a retiree with type 1 diabetes, a bone disorder, and recent heart attack survivor, and his partner, Gail, are seeking to fill a void left by their beloved pet, Pearl.
Following a 16-year journey with Pearl, a ‘pocket rocket’ pooch that kept them on their toes, the couple faces a daunting emptiness. With Gail at work, Ian battles loneliness and despondency that’s even impacting his mobility in the house. Moreover, the loss of Pearl has meant Gail’s morning exercise routines have also been disrupted.
With the hope that a new small-sized rescue dog could rekindle Ian’s spirits and encourage Gail to resume her morning walks, they turn to Joel and Laura for help. Yet, the present task seems an uphill battle as pounds are flooded with medium to large dogs, while the few small ones are snapped up in no time.
