Perth-based nurse Rosey, originally from the north of England, is embarking on an emotional journey after the loss of her husband Tom.
In the latest episode of ‘New Leash on Life’, set to air Tuesday 25th July at 8.00pm on ABC and iview, Rosey explores the potential of adopting a dog from the local pound.
Rosey, 42, who migrated to Perth with Tom nearly six years ago, was left devastated after he passed away following a brief illness a year ago. Now, ten months on, she’s determined to tackle their shared bucket list, with acquiring a dog at the top of her priorities.
She hopes that a large, comforting canine companion could not only provide her with safety and love but also serve as a bridge to meet new people.
Two prominent candidates emerge: an unnamed chocolate Labrador-cross and a large Bullmastiff-cross named Arty. Although Arty is a ‘project dog’ requiring extra care, training and time due to his anxiety and heightened reactions to other dogs, Rosey’s position as a first-time dog owner poses questions about the suitability of their match.
‘New Leash on Life’, financed by ABC and Screenwest, is the brainchild of the Factual Formats Initiative, launched in 2022, aiming to produce returnable factual series from Western Australia. The series features Creasey and Laura V working tirelessly to reduce the number of dogs in pounds by rescuing, training, and matching them with suitable owners.
This six-part series offers a deep dive into various heartwarming rescue stories.
While Laura V utilises her expertise to ensure a perfect match between the dogs and their potential homes, Creasey, new to the world of animal pounds, learns and assists in preparing these rescued dogs for their new homes. The series celebrates the profound healing potential of dog companionship, providing audiences with emotional and touching stories.
