New Leash On Life, hosted by renowned comedian Joel Creasey and eminent dog behaviourist Laura V, brings a much-needed spotlight to the cause of dog rescues.
The duo is dedicated to reducing the number of dogs in pounds by matching them with appropriate homes.
The third episode of the series, set to air on Tuesday, 18 July at 8.00pm on ABC and iview, will introduce viewers to a poignant case. Tracy, affectionately called ‘Nana Skids’ by her grandsons, is a fifty-seven-year-old paraplegic who became wheelchair-bound after a life-changing motorbike accident fourteen years ago.
Known for her adventurous spirit before the accident, Tracy now battles feelings of isolation and depression. She harbours hopes that a rescue dog might help reconnect her with the world outside her front door.
However, her previous application for a rescue dog was denied by a shelter group due to her disability. The only thing Tracy is sure of is that she does not want a chihuahua.
Joel and Laura aim to help Tracy by finding a compatible canine companion that will not overwhelm her and can also coexist with Darla, her daughter’s rottweiler. A pair of recently arrived small dogs, Jasper, a fox terrier, and Jade, a chihuahua, could be potential candidates, but there are concerns about whether Tracy would accept two dogs – particularly as Jade is a chihuahua.
Each episode of “New Leash On Life” covers a unique rescue story. While Laura utilises her expertise in dog behaviour to ensure the compatibility between dog and potential owner, Joel, although new to the world of animal pounds, learns quickly and interacts wholeheartedly with the rescue dogs.
The series provides six emotionally charged episodes, each giving viewers a glimpse into the challenging yet rewarding world of dog rescues and adoption.
