Tuesday evening is set to be an emotional roller-coaster for viewers as the popular ABC and iview series, ‘New Leash on Life’, delves into its second episode.
Episode two pivots around Memphis, a robust three-and-a-half-year-old Doberman-Staffy cross, famed for his terrifying bark. Joel Creasey, an acclaimed comedian but a novice in dog rehabilitation, discovers how appearances can deceive, and not to “judge a book by its cover”.
Guiding him through this complex world is the renowned dog behaviourist Laura V, whose brave venture into Memphis’s cage shows her resolve in extending help to this traumatised canine.
The situation escalates as the show introduces Derek, the facility’s animal care officer and a single father, who’s the only person that can bridge the gap between Memphis and the rest of the world. The clock is ticking for Derek, as he strives to transition Memphis from the pound to a temporary foster home, before the unthinkable consequence of euthanasia becomes a reality.
The team faces a conundrum, given that the potential foster carer needs to have significant experience in dealing with dogs harbouring behavioural issues. Meanwhile, Laura, undeterred, is resolved to train Memphis to rekindle his trust in humans, enhancing his chances of finding a suitable carer.
The 2023 series, a product of Artemis production and funded by ABC and Screenwest, offers viewers an emotional and inspiring journey, spotlighting six unique rescue stories.
