Following the triumphant success of its inaugural season, Network 10’s comedy favourite, Taskmaster Australia, has announced its eagerly anticipated return in 2024.
The show, which also scooped a nomination at the TV Week Logie Award in 2023, captured the nation’s attention with its unique format, becoming a fast favourite amongst viewers.
Leading the charge once again is the formidable Tom Gleeson, reprising his role as the eponymous Taskmaster, with his loyal assistant, Tom Cashman, returning to share the comedic duties. Each week, the duo will challenge a new group of comedians with an array of bewildering tasks, testing their ingenuity and quick thinking.
The upcoming season features an impressive ensemble of comedy talent ready to put their reputations on the line.
Comedians Peter Helliar, Mel Buttle, Aaron Chen, Concetta Caristo and Rhys Nicholson have signed on to compete in Australian television’s most outrageous comedy challenge.
The show’s premise is simple yet hilarious. Comedians are set a range of seemingly ordinary tasks, and are then awarded points based on their performance.
Points are determined by Gleeson, with those who showcase exceptional creativity and speed garnering the most points, while confusion and failure are met with fewer rewards. The comedian with the highest points at the series’ end claims the coveted title of the Taskmaster Champion.
The first season of Taskmaster Australia attracted a robust audience, with an estimated 520,000 viewers tuning in nationally for its overnight broadcast, demonstrating the show’s broad appeal.
Taskmaster Australia’s format, originally a hit in the UK, has been successfully adapted for the local market. The show is celebrated globally for its unique concept that rewards innovation and criticises incompetence, all the while guaranteeing abundant laughs. The format has been sold to 12 countries worldwide, generating over 300 episodes outside the UK.
Taskmaster Australia is produced for Network 10 by Avalon / Kevin & Co.
I enjoyed season 1, I had heard of some of the people this time I know one name, and I don’t know if that’s enough to make me watch.
Would rather watch uk versions!
