Ashleigh Raper, renowned political journalist, is set to take the helm as Network Political Editor at Network 10.

The respected reporter is making the leap from the ABC, where she had been a constant presence in covering major stories on Macquarie Street in Sydney.

Raper’s appointment follows Peter van Onselen’s departure from the network in March, after a four-year tenure as its political editor. The coveted role at Network 10 will see her spearhead the political coverage on 10 News First. Furthermore, she will make appearances on other network programs like The Project and Studio 10.

Born and bred in Sydney, Raper has an impressive 15-year long career at the ABC under her belt, where she reported and presented for a range of media platforms including television, radio, digital, and social media.

Her journey in journalism began in regional radio reporting at ABC Orange and ABC Newcastle. Upon her return to Sydney, she took up newsreading for Triple J radio. A year later, she transitioned to television, honing her skills as a writer, producer, and presenter of state and national news stories for over a decade.

Throughout her career, Raper has led the coverage of state politics for ABC NSW, covering significant events from landmark legislation and leadership spills to the recent NSW state election. Her work during the state’s worst disasters, including the Lismore floods and the black summer bushfires, as well as her coverage of the Covid crisis, solidified her reputation as a trusted face in news.

In addition to her reporting duties, Raper also contributes as a political columnist, panel member, analyst, and co-host of a podcast.

Martin White, Head of Broadcast News at Paramount Australia and New Zealand, praised Raper’s appointment, stating,

“Ashleigh’s track record speaks for itself. She’s a top-notch journo with a history of covering big political stories and elections. We’re thrilled to have her onboard at 10 and are eager for her to get started.”

Expressing her excitement about the new role, Ashleigh Raper said,

“It’s a dream come true to head to the nation’s capital and cover politics at a time when the issues are impacting people like never before. I can’t wait to join Network 10 and the team in Canberra.”

Raper will assume her new role next month.
