Production has begun in Sydney for the new original anthology drama series, Erotic Stories, set to air on SBS.
Erotic Stories is set to showcase unique stories with characters who have not typically been portrayed as sexual leads on Australian screens, such as queer, gender-diverse, disabled, middle-aged, and people of colour.
The series boasts a star-studded cast, including Golden Globe Best Actress nominee Frances O’Connor (The Missing, Madam Bovary, The End), Kate Box (Rake, Wentworth, Deadlock), Danielle Cormack (Year Of, Secret She Keeps, My Life is Murder), and Rarriwuy Hick (Wentworth, True Colours).
The eight-part series is produced by Lingo Pictures, part of ITV Studios, and features a team of Australia’s most exciting writers, including Sarah Walker, Marieke Hardy, Adrian Chiarella, Alistair Baldwin, Jean Tong, Tamara Asmar, Sara Khan, and Christine Bartlett. The show aims to change the narrative around sex and intimacy by exploring the delight, complexity, and chaos of lust and longing.
The show allows for exploration of desire from different perspectives, delivering a fresh take on the topic of sex.
Erotic Stories is produced by Lingo Pictures’ Helen Bowden (The Secrets She Keeps, On the Ropes, Queen of Oz) and Liam Heyen (Latecomers, Top End Wedding). Executive Producer is Jason Stephens (The Lambs of God, Upright, The Messenger), and the show’s directors are Madeleine Gottlieb and Leticia Cáceres.
SBS’ Head of Scripted, Julie Eckersley, describes Erotic Stories as “inventive and cheeky,” offering a unique perspective on the topic of sex and intimacy. The show is set to premiere on SBS and SBS On Demand in 2023 and is produced in association with, and distributed internationally by, ITV Studios.
The series has received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with SBS, with support from Screen NSW.
