ABC confirms broadcast details for ANZAC DAY 2023

The ABC will provide live coverage of Anzac Day marches in all states and territories on Tuesday 25 April along with live coverage of the dawn services in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra and from the Australian War Memorials in Gallipoli, Türkiye and Villers-Bretonneux in northern France.

Australia’s commemoration of those who have served will be carried across all ABC platforms from the capital city services to marches in regional centres.

Live coverage will begin at 4.20am on ABC TV, ABC Radio NSW and on the ABC’s digital and social media channels with the broadcast of the Sydney Dawn Service from the Martin Place Cenotaph, followed by the National Commemorative Dawn Service from the National War Memorial, Canberra, from 5.30am (AEST) on ABC TV, ABC Radio and digital and social channels nationally. ABC TV, ABC News and ABC Radio Melbourne will cover the Melbourne Dawn Service from the Shrine of Remembrance from 6.00am (AEST).

There will also be live television coverage of the Adelaide and Darwin dawn services for local audiences from 6.00am to 7.00am (ACST). ABC Local Radio will cover the dawn services in Brisbane, Hobart and Perth which will also be streamed on their local Facebook pages.

The ABC will provide full local coverage of Anzac Day marches in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin from 9.00am (AEST).  

ABC listen will feature a special pop-up Anzac Day channel, with live broadcasts of various services, along with oral history programs from RN and feature interviews from ABC Local Radio. The channel will run from 6.00pm on 24 April to 6.00pm on 25 April (AEST). 

ABC iview will once again feature a collection of programs Anzac Day – Australia Remembers acknowledging the sacrifices of Australian servicemen and women.

The day’s coverage will conclude with the Governor General, David Hurley’s Anzac Day Address at 6.55pm.

Anzac Day continues to be one of the largest and most complex broadcast events of the year for the ABC. This year more than 200 ABC staff and contributors will be working across the country and across Europe to bring Australians all the important moments from the day.

ABC’s Head of Screen, Sport and Events, Kath Earle, said

“We will have our cameras at the Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne dawn services as well as multiple cameras situated along the march routes in the capital cities to ensure we capture all those taking part.

There will also be roving reporters, who will interview key spokespeople from the RSL, the defence forces as well as the servicemen and women and their families, who will be marching.”

Dawn Services 

The Sydney Dawn Service will be broadcast live on ABC TV, ABC NEWS channel, ABC iview, on the ABC listen app and streamed live on ABC Radio Sydney and ABC Australia’s Facebook pages and ABC Australia’s YouTube channel from 4.30am (AEST), followed by the National Commemorative Dawn Service from Canberra on ABC TV, ABC NEWS channel, ABC iview, RN, ABC Local Radio, on the ABC listen app and streamed live on Facebook and YouTube from 5.30am (AEST).   Melbourne’s Dawn Service will be available on ABC TV, the ABC NEWS channel and on ABC Radio Melbourne and its Facebook page from 6.00am (AEST). Adelaide and Darwin dawn services will be broadcast locally on ABC TV from 6.00am to 7.00am (ACST) and streamed live on ABC Australia’s YouTube channel and on ABC Radio Adelaide and ABC Radio Darwin’s Facebook pages. 

Anzac Day marches 

ABC TV and ABC News Channel, ABC Local Radio, ABC listen app and ABC Capital City Radio Facebook pages will cover Anzac Day marches in all capital cities as well as some regional marches. From 9.00am (AEST). 

Gallipoli and Villers-Bretonneux 

ABC TV and ABC NEWS channel will broadcast the Gallipoli Dawn Service live from 12.30pm (AEST) and the Villers-Bretonneux Dawn Service from 1.30pm (AEST).
