Frozen Planet II is set to return to Australian screens more than a decade after the original Frozen Planet offered viewers a rare glimpse into life at the North and South Pole.

Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the new documentary series delves deeper into the lives of the incredible species that inhabit these frigid regions.

Frozen Planet II captures the dramatic wildlife encounters that take place in the world’s highest mountains, frozen deserts, snowbound forests and icy oceans.

For creatures like polar bears, penguins, Siberian tigers, and snow monkeys, surviving in these extreme environments requires incredible resilience and adaptation. The Arctic and Antarctic remain the last true wilderness areas, where only the most heroic animals can exist.

Global warming continues to wreak havoc on these delicate ecosystems, with parts of the frozen planet disappearing at an alarming rate. Frozen Planet II examines the devastating impact of climate change on both wildlife and humans, with interviews from scientists dedicated to understanding these changes and their implications for the planet.

The series is shot in ultra-high definition, revealing new animal behaviours and intimate moments between species, capturing natural spectacles that have never been seen before. With six episodes, Frozen Planet II is a rare opportunity to experience the wonder of our planet’s frozen realms, as they stand on the brink of unprecedented change.

Produced by BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, in partnership with BBC America, the Open University, Migu Video, ZDF and France Televisions, the series highlights the common threat faced by all of the frozen habitats, which is the threat posed by climate change.
