The 2023 Formula One Australian Grand Prix proved to be a success, with Australians eagerly tuning in to catch all the live action on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
The race dominated all key advertising demographics, attracting a national audience of 698,000 viewers (metro + regional + live stream) for the LIVE race coverage, and a total of 742,000 (metro + regional + live stream) national viewers for the post-race coverage.
The event was watched by a capacity crowd of over 130,000 people who flocked to the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne for the fastest race in the country. The race was stopped three times and ended under the safety car, with Max Verstappen claiming victory and Australian Oscar Piastri scoring his maiden world championship points.
The race commanded a commercial share of 45.5% and dominated social media, trending on Twitter throughout the afternoon with more than 239,000 tweets using #AusGP on Sunday alone.
Streaming platform 10 Play recorded more than 273,000 live streams across the weekend.
Racing commentator and 1996 Formula 1 World Champion, Damon Hill, praised the event, saying:
“It was an incredible weekend of racing at Albert Park, and I was thrilled to be involved with Network 10’s broadcast and call all the heart-pumping action of F1.”
