Perth synth-metal quintet, Voyager, has been selected to represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool this May.

The Eurovision Song Contest final is set to be held on May 14th, 2023, and will be broadcast exclusively on SBS, with coverage once again fronted by Myf Warhurst and Joel Creasey. With Voyager leading the way, fans from all over the world are eager to see what they have in store for the event.

The band has been vying to participate in the contest ever since Australia announced its involvement in 2015.

The band comprises of Danny Estrin (Vocals, Keytar), Simone Dow (Guitars), Scott Kay (Guitars), Alex Canion (Bass), and Ash Doodkorte (Drums) who will perform their pop metal song, Promise.

Their captivating music video for Promise was partly filmed in WA’s mid-west Kalbarri and Kalbarri National Park, showcasing the region’s natural rock formations, including Nature’s Window. Singer Danny Estrin expressed his excitement to perform at the event, calling it the “pinnacle” of his Eurovision fandom.

The song was chosen through an internal selection by SBS / Blink TV, following the band’s success at last year’s Eurovision: Australia Decides, where they led the public vote with their song Dreamer.

The decision to select Voyager marks the first time an Australian band will perform at the event.

SBS Head of Entertainment Emily Griggs praised Voyager’s performance, saying that they bring together “80’s and catchy lyrics that you can’t stop singing,” while also showing determination to claim centre stage for Australia on the biggest song contest in the world.

“Voyager bring together my love for the 80’s and catchy lyrics that you can’t stop singing. I can’t wait to see Eurovision fans the world over embrace them as much as Aussie crowds have.

Voyager have been determined to get centre stage for the biggest song contest in the world and SBS know they will bring that grit with them along with a whole lot of fun. Look out Europe, the Aussies are coming!”

Paul Clarke, Director of Blink TV, lauded Promise as an “epic, cinematic track” that will take listeners on an “anthemic rock voyage” all the way to the Eurovision stage.

Promise is a song that delivers in spades, from a band that never fails to impress. From the very first listen I knew it was something special – an epic, cinematic track that will take listeners on an anthemic rock voyage all the way to the Eurovision stage.

This year, Australia’s hopes are in the masterful hands of a band for the first time ever, and I can’t wait for Voyager to rock your socks off in Liverpool.”
