Grand Designs Australia will return for the conclusion of its final season hosted by multi award-winning architect Peter Maddison this January on Foxtel.

Peter Maddison has been following the remarkable journeys of Australia’s most ambitious and resilient architectural trailblazers for the last ten seasons, when he first joined as host in 2009.

In this final season of Grand Designs Australia, Peter traverses the country and follows eight new homeowners, all driven visionaries who strive to realise their dream and push the limits in their quest to find clever design solutions changing Australia’s architectural landscape forever.

The decision by Foxtel to bring the popular season to a conclusion comes at the same time as industry speculation is hinting at the ABC preparing to announce the commissioning of its own version of the franchise.

Grand Designs Australia follows the lengths, depths and heights of these bold and passionate architectural pioneers, all who have astounding designs, innovative materials, inspired solutions in some of the most extreme environments on the planet.

From the soaring temperatures of Coober Pedy to the windswept coastline of South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula: the surfer paradise of Torquay, Victoria, to a 100 year old hat factory in Sydney’s bustling inner city hotspot of Newtown, this season features everything from shipping containers, radical underground dugouts and a modernist home constructed entirely out of concrete.

Peter Maddison said:

“It has been an absolute pleasure for me to have hosted Grand Designs Australia. It was unexpected at the time believing it may only last a few years, and here we are 12 years later.

It has gone way beyond my expectations; however, I had hoped to make 100 episodes as Kevin McCloud had done, and we have managed to achieve that in this upcoming season.

Grand Designs brings stories of real Australians to the surface and exposes the highs and lows, the tribulations, successes and failures. It is heartfelt and real, and it has been an absolute privilege to meet all the homeowners and to have been able to share their incredible stories.”

Wendy Moore, Group General Manager, LifeStyle and FOX ARENA, said:

“For ten amazing seasons, Grand Designs Australia and our much-loved host Peter Maddison has celebrated the unique architectural dreams of Australian homeowners with a passion and curiosity that has been unmatched on our screens.

Peter leaves a legacy of genuine love for telling the stories behind some of our most ambitious design dreamers, and Foxtel has been proud to have brought this to our viewers as part of our slate of LifeStyle productions for so many years.”

GRAND DESIGNS AUSTRALIA is produced by Fremantle Australia exclusively for FOXTEL.

The final season of Grand Designs Australia premieres Wednesdays at 8.30pm from January 25 on FOXTEL and available On Demand.
