The 2022 Brownlow Medal is now set to be a Sunday night event after the AFL was forced to move the telecast due to a schedule clash with the Queen’s Funeral.
TV Blackbox can confirm 7News Melbourne presenter Rebecca Maddern is set to host the Brownlow coverage for the first time alongside network sports anchor Hamish McLachlan.
To avoid a conflict with the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the Brownlow Medal has been moved forward a day from the customary Monday night before the grand final by the AFL.
This year’s event will see a return to Crown Casino in Melbourne. 2022 will mark the first time the telecast has been staged in front of a live Melbourne audience in 3 years.
Confirming the date change, AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan stated;
“We have had a lot of practice over the last two years at being agile when needed and I want to thank the Seven Network, Crown Melbourne and all our partners for being so accommodating with this decision,”
The Brownlow is the AFL’s night of nights leading up to the grand final, and we look forwards to celebrating the medal count appropriately on Sunday night.”
The top contenders for the 2022 award include Melbourne premiership hero Clayton Oliver, Fremantle young gun Andrew Brayshaw, and Brisbane Lions star Lachie Neale.
