We share the untold stories enriching our community

7NEWS, together with RAC Insurance, is seeking nominations to find Perth’s Local Champions and give them the recognition they overwhelmingly deserve.

They are the volunteers, the carers and the selfless unsung heroes that quietly dedicate their time to helping the lives of others within their community.

Over ten weeks, each Wednesday and Sunday night, 7NEWS will tell the stories of Local Champions who have been nominated by fellow community members.

With the support of RAC Insurance, a total of $15,500 in prize money will be awarded across eight categories based on contribution and impact in the local community, with a major prize of $5,000 awarded to the overall winner.

The prize categories include:

  1. 7NEWS Local Champion
  2. Small Business Champion
  3. Environmental Champion
  4. School Champion
  5. Seniors Champion
  6. Sports Champion
  7. Arts Champion
  8. Change Champion

Director, 7NEWS Perth Ray Kuka says,

“We want to share more stories beyond the harsh news of COVID and tragedy, we want to be proud of our city just like our viewers are, proud of the people around us, and proud of the stories that make us who we are.

It’s been an incredible two years in Perth, through the impact of lockdowns, the devastation of fires and the separation from loved ones, the community has rallied with hope, empathy and strength. Beyond these big events, there are people in our suburbs who change people’s lives daily and we want to give them the recognition they deserve.”

You can nominate a Local Champion via our website www.7news.com.au/localchampions or by emailing the required details to [email protected] .

Entries are now open and close Sunday, 26 June 2022.  Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in July and will be aired on 7NEWS.

  1. I wish to nominate Terry Ransome for the environmental award. Terry has been picking up the rubbish along Coalfields Hwy from Collie to Roelands for as long as anyone can remember. He is out rain, hail or shine. He is well known by everyone that uses the highway and puts a smile 😃 on faces when seen. He deserves more recognition that he receives. He does all this with only the pride of being a citizen of Collie in mind. Terry deserves this award to show that the citizens of Collie appreciate his efforts. His inspiration has made me help by cleaning the Mornington Rd from Collie to Harvey.
