Bert Newton will be honoured at a state funeral in Melbourne this Friday
The life of the four-time gold Logie award-winning entertainer will be honoured at a State Funeral Service this Friday, 12 November at St Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne.
TV Blackbox can confirm viewers across the country will be able to watch live coverage of the service on Channel 9 and Channel 10. Coverage details for the funeral on additional networks is yet to to be confirmed
The service for the television icon is set to commence at 10am AEST. His widow Patti accepted Daniel Andrews’ offer of a state funeral.
“I said yes to a state funeral because as I said, a little boy from North Fitzroy and having success in show business and having all these wonderful accolades go his way,’’
“And then a state funeral — Bert would love it. His mum and his sister, they would be so thrilled — and I’m thrilled for him.
“It’ll be very nice and it’s a wonderful gesture because he’s very Melbourne, Bert.
“Even though he’s worked in all different states, Melbourne was his state and his love so that was a very nice thing.”
Attendance at the funeral service has been limited to family, friends and colleagues.
