Today we’re looking at all things lifestyle with five excellent finalists picked by you for the TV Boxies.

So far, we’ve looked at Drama, Comedy and Panel, but today we’re diving into the Most Popular Lifestyle Program category, which you can have your say in and vote for your favourite among the 20 others before the TV Boxies goes live on November 28.

Each of the free-to-air networks clock up a nomination in this category, as well as the ABC and Foxtel – making this a real battle for the win.

MOST POPULAR LIFESTYLE PROGRAM FINALISTS

GARDENING AUSTRALIA (ABC)

Hosted by Costa Georgiadis, Gardening Australia provides practical, realistic, and credible horticultural and gardening advice, inspiring and entertaining all Australian gardeners around the nation.

With a team of presenters around the country, the show is the one-stop-shop for all your gardening needs on a Friday night. The show also spawned a monthly magazine under the same name.

After debuting in 1990, Gardening Australia is in its 32nd season in 2021, and the show has just picked up a nomination in the AACTA Awards for ‘Favourite Australian Entertainment Show’.

The show did well at the Logie Awards in 2019, winning in both the ‘Lifestyle’ category and in the ‘Presenter’ category for Georgiadis’ role as host. Georgiadis was also nominated for a Gold Logie in the same year.

TRAVEL GUIDES (Nine)

Launcing in 2017, Travel Guides has been a hit with viewers on Nine, with the show renewed for a fifth season earlier this year for 2022.

The series follows groups of ordinary Australians who become travel guides and experience the same week-long international and domestic holidays, reviewing the same accommodation, cuisine, and local sights.

In 2021, an ‘Aussie Event’ series was commissioned where the cast travelled over four episodes to unique Australian destinations.

With hilarious fun and a cast where you either hate to love or love to hate them, the show was nominated for a Logie in the equivalent ‘Lifestyle’ category in 2019.

THE LIVING ROOM (10)

A Friday staple at 10, The Living Room has been one of the most adored lifestyle programs since its inception in 2012.

Hosted by Amanda Keller, who’s joined by Miguel Maestre, Dr Chris Brown and Barry Du Bois, the show delves into a range of topics including renovations, travel and pet advice and cooking.

In 2020, the show saw a format change where it focuses on one family each week, helping out with their various lifestyle issues and conundrums.

The show has done well at the Logies in Most Popular Lifestyle before, winning the award for four-straight years from 2015-2018. But with their new format yet to be tested, it’ll be interesting to see if it can snag the TV Boxie.

GRAND DESIGNS AUSTRALIA (Foxtel)

This show documents people who attempt to build a custom-designed house and the challenges they face, hosted by architect Peter Maddison.

As of 2021, nine seasons have gone to air for the show that’s based off the British version of the same name.

Like Gardening Australia, Grand Designs Australia also has a magazine to accompany the show, featuring houses comprised of a diversity of styles and budgets.

While only a handful of episodes are produced each season, the show still remains to be one of Australia’s most popular, chalking up a finalist nod in the TV Boxies.

BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS (Seven)

Since 1995, Better Homes and Gardens has been a lifestyle staple to Australian TV, and has achieved much success in its long run on Seven.

Johanna Griggs took over the hosting reigns in 2005, and is joined by a variety of presenters in food, gardening, architect, decorating, DIY, motor and technology, pets, and health and fitness.

In an interview earlier this year, Griggs said about the show, “people can, for 90 minutes every week switch on and get a show which just celebrates people, celebrates great ideas, celebrates amazing ingenuity and it’s all positive”.

The show has won 12 Silver Logies in the ‘Lifestyle’ category, its first in 1996 and most recently a seven-win streak that ended in 2014.
