Welcome to Love Island Australia. Where a group of beautiful single Australians take six weeks off to find love the old-fashioned way… in a reality show.

Love Island Australia sees contestants (dubbed ‘Islanders’) couple up, stay together, and win over the hearts of the public, all while surviving the temptations of beautiful bombshells entering the villa.

The world-renowned reality TV phenomenon will be hosted by Sophie Monk alongside new addition, comedian Stephen Mullan, as the narrator, and Abbie Chatfield as host of Afterparty each Thursday night.

Host Sophie Monk said:

“I am really excited about the show this year. I’m telling you honestly, it’s the best cast I’ve seen. And the Villa blew me away. It is so big. You want to stay in all the Love Island Villas, but this one is the ultimate. It is like paradise.”

The Islanders are hoping to find romance, passion and “the one” where they couple up, stay together, and win over the hearts of the public, all while surviving the temptations of beautiful bombshells entering the villa.

At the end of the series, the winning couple as voted by the public are handed a pot of money to start their new lives together, but there’s a very big catch: one partner gets the whole say in either sharing the money 50/50 – or walking away with the lot, like a love rat. Were they after love or the money all along?

FIVE MINUTES WITH TAKU

Why Love Island?

I’ve been chasing the footy around and working in a café part-time for the past six years. People say I have got an amazing character. My boss’s wife told me to apply for the first season, but I had a girlfriend three years ago. Then I thought if I was single and the opportunity was coming up, why not?

How would you describe yourself? What kind of person are you?

I think I am more of an extrovert for sure. I’m all about good vibes and energy, you very rarely catch me being down. That’s me in a nutshell.

The YouTube fragrance channel, what’s that all about?

I have about 180 fragrances at home. My dad always smelt good. I started to collect the fragrances in the first lockdown and I got about 30 or 40, and someone said you should start your own YouTube channel. I started that and now a whole heap of companies send me their fragrances to review.

What kind of girl are you looking for?

I have been on a lot of dates where the vibe just wasn’t there. I’m a little too much, the energy wasn’t being reciprocated like I wanted. I know I’m a lot, but I wouldn’t mind someone who is close to my vibe and my energy. For some reason I end up with brunettes with curly hair.

Have you had any relationships?

Two. The first lasted about a year. The last one was four years, it started when I was 19. We broke up eight months ago.

When did you leave Zimbabwe for Australia?

When I was 14. My mum, my dad and my siblings are all back home. I moved here with my cousin and my aunty. In our culture, usually the firstborn gets to go out, the first person to leave the nest. When I left, I came here for school and to start a different path and get a better life. I played rugby union back home, and when I came here I didn’t think I was that good. But I got involved with some amazing coaches. I was on my way back up this year then COVID happened. Hopefully I will turn pro, but after I give Love Island 100 per cent and then see what happens.

AARON WATERS

Age: 24
Model
Perth, WA

“I’m just excited to see who is going to be there. I’m excited to see what the girls are like.”

ABOUT

A hopeless romantic, Aaron is a smooth talker who knows what he wants. He has a unique hairstyle and believes the girls will love it. Growing up in Perth, Aaron has been very good at sport, playing high-level football, surfing, and recently basketball at a high level. He says he’s not a party boy and has drifted away from some of his friends because of this. As well as working for the NBN, he has modelled streetwear for a couple of years, and this is what he wants to do more of.

DATING STATUS

He says he has only had a couple of relationships, but nothing memorable that has lasted long enough to be considered serious. Very single is the way to describe Aaron.

LOOKING FOR

Generally, he has gone for blondes with an honest personality, but he is open to changing things up.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

As well as meeting the right girl, he wants to find new friends from across Australia.

FIVE MINUTES WITH AARON

Why Love Island?

I have come to a point in my life where I felt like I needed a bit of direction, doing something I have never done before and meeting new people. I just want to make genuine connections.

Have you had many relationships in the past?

I’ve had a couple but none lasted very long. Nothing too serious. I just haven’t been able to find someone that’s on my level and same wavelength.

Is it hard to find girls who are ready to settle down?

It depends. Relationship-wise, I always find myself in the same place. I will be in it, and then I realise it’s more of a sexual connection and not really fulfilling. It just kind of dies off, like a candle that slowly burns out, that’s what it’s like for me.

What are you looking for in a girl?

Physically, I’ve always been attracted to blondes. Any time someone asks me what you are attracted to, I say blondes, tanned skin. But I’ve been with brunettes who are different to my usual type. To be honest, personality stands out a lot, especially for relationships. I need someone who is emotionally aware. Someone with drive and ambition. But also, someone who takes life seriously. That is just how I feel. I’ve got very high expectations.

How would you find it if there is a girl in there who is going for you and another boy, or the other way around?

It wouldn’t be the first time. Just being young, being around and meeting girls, you usually find yourself, and I have. I have had to weasel my way around talking to one girl, and then there is another girl. With confrontation, I consider myself more of a lover. I don’t really want to get involved in that. But if I do find myself in a confrontational situation, I’m not afraid to stand up for myself or voice an opinion. That doesn’t faze me, but I will try and avoid it. But can anyone avoid it?

RYAN REID

Age: 25

Carpenter

Terrigal, NSW

“I know my value and what I’m worth. I know what another person is worth. We are all worth a million dollars.”

ABOUT

A charismatic alpha male but one with a real soft side. Ryan is on Love Island Australia because he genuinely wants to find the love of his life. He came to Australia from South Africa with his family when he was a little boy, first living in Perth and later Sydney. He is obsessed with the gym – it’s his outlet to relieve stress from his other love, carpentry. Ryan is a hard worker and proud of it. He said he used to be the “fat kid” at school who played PlayStation but that all changed when he was 16. He has lots of mates and can’t wait to meet the boys in the villa too. Ryan takes pride in his appearance and loves dressing in designer fashion from head to toe.

DATING STATUS

No luck with relationships; Ryan says he has just never found the right girl he wants to settle down with.

LOOKING FOR

He is a sucker for an intelligent blonde, someone he can have decent conversations with.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND

Wants to walk out of the villa in a stable relationship. Find someone who he can have kids with, as he is watching all his mates do the same thing.

FIVE MINUTES WITH RYAN

Why Love Island?

A lot of my mates are having kids right now. I’ve always loved kids, but I’ve never really been able to find someone, so I thought I’d give this a try. A couple of the boys said just do it, so I thought why not?

What was it like when you got the call to say you had made it?

I was stoked. But at the same time, I’m just a normal dude who likes to train. I’m not a fancy real estate dude. I’m a tradie, I’m a fitness freak. I love my mates, I love my family. I’m an honest dude.

Tell us about your training.

It is a lot of work, like another job. I train morning and night. In the morning I do cardio and abs, which will be like five kilometres running. In the evening I do weights.

When did you start training?

When I was about 16 I used to be short, fat and ugly. Up until Year 10 I was one of the shortest kids in high school. I was sick of getting picked on, sick of being a little fat XBox and PlayStation player and a nerd. I enjoyed rugby union but I got out of that and started getting into the gym and I was good at it. It gave me conformity in life, it gave me a routine. I have a lot on my plate all the time, but if work is stressing me out, instead of getting angry I go to the gym. If I have a blow-up with my parents, anything like that, I will let myself go at the gym and go hard. That’s when I do my own thing. Working on myself for myself, not for anyone else, just me.

What are you looking for in a girl?

I am a sucker for a blondie. My main thing is I want them to be intelligent, where I can talk to them and have a decent conversation. A conversation that’s not ditzy, a bit of banter and quick wit. A bit more depth to it. That, and as I’m into fitness, I would love them to be into fitness too. Something we can do together or by ourselves.

How would you go if you became mates with one of the guys in the villa and you were interested in the same girl?

It’s called fair play. Let it play out.

RONNI KRONGOLD

Age: 21

Personal trainer

Bondi, NSW

“I want to do Love Island for my own enjoyment. You look at the setting, and you have hot girls in a villa and then go on exotic dates. That’s kind of what I do in my life anyway.”

ABOUT

Ronni is a Casanova who loves to go on as many dates as he can, sometimes three a week. His family come from the Ukraine, but Ronni has spent most of his life growing up in Sydney’s Bondi. He is now studying commerce after studying law for three years before giving it up. Ronni also works at a gym as a personal trainer. He is fascinated by all things Spanish, including Spanish music and dance. After Love Island Australia and when borders reopen, the first thing Ronni is going to do is take a holiday in South America. He hopes to do this with a girl he meets in the villa.

DATING STATUS

His last relationship was for six months, but even then, he says it wasn’t really that official. He admits he gets interested in girls but moves on quickly.

LOOKING FOR

He wants a girl who has positive energy and is comfortable with his big personality.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

To meet and date as many girls as he can and hopefully find his perfect match.

FIVE MINUTES WITH RONNI

Are you excited about Love Island?

I am very excited; this is the perfect timing for me. To go to a nice villa and relax and go on dates, it’s going to be amazing.

Do you think you’re going to do well on the show?

If I’m going to be brutally honest, yes.

You date a lot. Tell us about your dating history, and how you go about it.

It depends on my energy through my week and how I am feeling. When I am feeling and eating well, I like to set up a few dates during the week. One week it might be two, one, three, or zero. It depends on how many girls I’m speaking to and how many I’ve met. Usually before lockdown I would go to a bar and get phone numbers and I could set up lots of dates. My last relationship wasn’t official really, we were dating for about six months. When I cut that off, I didn’t want to get into another relationship, I wanted to be single. So I was going on a lot of dates, with the intention of getting laid. I would go with the same girl maybe one date, two dates, maximum three, then I would cut it off.

Is that because you just weren’t into them, or did you want to be single?

At that stage I wanted to be single. But sometimes I do get shocked, and I would go on a date and be super, super into the girl and want to see her again. Then it is not an official relationship, but a longish relationship. It’s the best life. I came on this show with an open mind. I know I’m not going to rush into a relationship because I don’t feel I need one. The relationship for me has to be something that I enjoy more than being single, which is a lot. So if I do get into that relationship, then I know it’s real. However, I might go in there saying I’m going to be picky or fussy, but as soon as you get in there and meet a girl you like, things could change.

How will you go if there are two girls fighting for you?

I will probably decide on the spot. Girls are very confusing; you can’t predict the situation. If I am clearly into one of the girls, obviously I will go with her. But if I’m uncertain then I might be a little bit smarter with my approach and play the Ronni game.

JORDAN TILLI

Age: 28

Business development manager

Melbourne, VIC

“I go in real heavy really quickly and then it fizzles out afterwards, and not always from my end.”

ABOUT

Jordan is the oldest person in the villa. He is confident and knows what he wants. Jordan wants to be known as someone who takes risks and doesn’t always go for what is normal. He has a great corporate career, but in the past he hasn’t always had mainstream jobs. He worked as a stripper on a hens’ night river cruise in Melbourne. He loves his tattoos and has been getting them since he was 18. He also has many more female friends then male, so that could be a threat to the other men in the villa.

DATING STATUS

He admits he has never had a longer relationship then six months and he is ready to change that.

LOOKING FOR

Someone who is funny and gets his unique sense of humour.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

He wants to settle down and find someone special as the playboy days are nearing an end.

FIVE MINUTES WITH JORDAN TILLI

Why Love Island?

I haven’t been successful finding love on my own. I thought this show might be a good way to try and find it. Obviously, what I have been doing so far hasn’t really worked.

Are you ready to settle down?

I am 28 so I think I’m getting to that point. I wouldn’t say settle down marriage-wise. I think from the age of 16 to 25 I’ve been proper single. In the last couple of years I’ve been in a couple of good relationships. It’s kind of made me realise it’s better to have one person rather than chasing girls. I’m ready.

Why haven’t you managed to have a long-term relationship so far?

Everyone tells me I haven’t met the right one, I guess that’s it. But also, I don’t think I’m really one to settle into something I don’t like. I’m not going to look past it. I’m not going to waste each other’s time with it.

Do you think you will fall hard and fast in the villa? What are you like normally?

There have been a couple of girls in the past couple of years . . . I’ve been a bit much for them and they back off. It happens both ways. I usually fall pretty quickly.

Can you imagine meeting someone on day one, or will your head get turned?

If you asked me a few years ago I would have said my head would get turned first. If day one is what I’m looking for, I would be happy to stay and see what happens.

Were you really a stripper once?

Yes, for a few years I did that. I was a waiter for a little while, then one of the guys left for a girl and asked if I wanted to do the stripping. It lasted for three or four years. It was like a river cruise on the Yarra River in Melbourne, hens parties. Just a bit of fun.

What about the guys, are you looking forward to meeting them?

I have a very small circle of friends. There are probably two people I speak to regularly, and a couple of others outside of that. I tend to get along better with women, even friendship-wise. I’ve got a couple of guys from high school, but I find myself being more friendly and getting along better with the women I work with.

TINA PROVIS

Age: 25

PR consultant

Sydney, NSW

“I think my disastrous dating history has been comic relief for most of my friends.”

ABOUT

Ambitious Tina has worked in public relations for the past few years. Always the life of the party, she has a big, bubbly personality.

Tina says everyone around her, including her work colleagues, is amused with her horror, train-wreck dating stories, so she thought why not try Love Island? Tina is a strong and independent woman, and thinks Australian men often struggle with that. She grew up on the Northern Beaches in Sydney.

DATING STATUS

For the past four years she hasn’t been able to find a man, just one “a-hole to another”, and she is ready to settle down. Her last relationship was four years ago, and it ended after two years.

LOOKING FOR

She wants someone who is outgoing and like her, the life of the party. A partner in crime that she can settle down with.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

To have fun and show Australia her personality. Also, to amuse her family and friends.

FIVE MINUTES WITH TINA

Why Love Island?

It’s been the butt of everyone’s jokes, even at work, that I would be perfect for it. I think that is a compliment on one hand, because everyone is hot and that’s great. So it felt like it was just the right time, especially as we haven’t been able to do much in the last year. It’s perfect timing.

What is your dating and relationship history?

I think my last serious relationship was four years ago, we were together for two years. Since then there have been little things, but it’s been a string of disappointing a-holes or just not the right thing at the right time. So I’ve just been doing my own thing for the past four years and having the best time. I’ve travelled, I’ve met some amazing people, and I have made the most of it. I guess in that time I have made myself into a bit of a party girl, which might be off-putting to people who are looking for a stable relationship. I think a lot of guys probably just see me as the fun-time good-time girl, and then they piss off. I’m sure that has contributed to me being single.

You won’t settle for someone who doesn’t accept you for who you are, surely?

Yes, exactly. I think especially after this long amount of time being single, I finally know what I want. I won’t accept anything less now, because I’ve already accepted less and that hasn’t worked, so I have to switch something up.

Do you think some men struggle with confident, strong women?

Yes. I don’t know why, that’s why I am here on Love Island

What are you looking forward to most about going into the villa?

Aside from the fact I’ve been sitting and staring at the wall for the past two months, I guess I’m excited to work on my tan, meet new people. I love working with new people and making new friends. In summer I am usually down at the beach, hanging out and having a drink with big groups of people. It’s what I already do, and I can’t wait.

What about the girls? Are you looking forward to making new friends?

I am. I am up for meeting new people because I haven’t been able to do that in lockdown over the past year and get out of my comfort zone.

Jess – Cast of Love Island Australia 2021 (image – Channel 9)

JESS VELKOVSKI

Age: 23

The Intimidator

Cronulla, NSW

“I’m not just beautiful, I’m powerful as well. I say what I want to say, and I do what I want to do.”

ABOUT

Jess isn’t shy in saying that when she enters the villa, she will be the brightest light. A strong woman, she worries about going into the villa – that she might be intimidating to the other girls. But she isn’t going to change who she is.

She describes herself as playful and independent, and she wants a man who embraces that. Despite her intelligence, she is tired of being judged as a dumb blonde, and Jess wants to prove everyone wrong.

DATING STATUS

Her last boyfriend was 25 and she was 19. Jess says that relationship matured her in a big way.

LOOKING FOR

A man that makes her laugh and has eyes only for her.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

She finds that men don’t approach her and are scared of her, so going on Love Island is ultimately about finding a man who isn’t like that.

FIVE MINUTES WITH JESS

Why Love Island?

When I go out, I’m the brightest light in the room, and I don’t really get approached by men. If I do, they are weirdos, the ones that come up to me. Plus, the men on the show are gorgeous. So, it’s a win-win really.

Tell us a bit about your previous relationships.

I had my first boyfriend when I was 16 and that ended because I was quite immature. Then I had a couple of relationships, but they weren’t official things. Then I met my ex. He was the biggest relationship of my life, the one that taught me a lot of lessons. He was six years older than me. I was naive and didn’t know a lot about the world. I was with him a year and a half.

How do you think you will go in the villa if there is one boy that likes you and another girl?

That depends on how much I like him. Since my ex, I have found it hard to commit to one person. I don’t really know how I will go with that, to be honest. I do want to explore my options and make sure I make the right decision. I feel like you should test the waters with everyone before you make a real decision.

Do you think Love Island is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?

Since my previous boyfriend, I have always wanted to do the show. Not just to find a relationship, but I think it will be fun to be in a bikini with hot men. I’m not going to tell you I’m going to meet the love of my life, but hopefully I meet someone I can start building something with and see where it goes.

Sometimes you intimidate other women. Tell us about that.

I’m quite outgoing and strong. I feel like a lot of girls, if they don’t have that personality trait, almost hate me for it.

“I am an old soul and a nerd at heart. I love Star Wars movies, Lego, and I love going to bookstores. I’m not someone who sleeps around and goes to bars all the time.”

ABOUT

With 266,000 followers on Tik Tok and 26,000 on Instagram, Rachael Evren knows what it is like to be in the public eye. She has a history of doing well in beauty pageants in Australia and the United States, something she is proud of. But Rachael is a nerd at heart who loves building Lego and everything about Harry Potter and Star Wars. She often gets judged by the way she looks, before boys realise she is a kind soul.

DATING STATUS

Bad experiences with her past two relationships have made her distrustful of men. In her last relationship the man lied about having a child with a previous woman.

LOOKING FOR

A bit of a dork. And she wants a real sweetheart. A man who is into fitness. Humour is also important.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

To find love and learn how to put herself out there and trust in someone again.

FIVE MINUTES WITH RACHAEL

Why Love Island?

I’ve had really bad relationships, the last two in particular. I thought there was nothing to lose from entering the show. I genuinely am looking for a decent, nice guy.

Why has it been hard to find a decent man?

I find that is more so on the Gold Coast. The boys are looking for one thing. I need someone who is on the same wavelength as me.

It must have been very disappointing, those bad relationships.

Yes, it was a very hard time to go through. When you are so in love with someone and all they are doing is lying all the time, that’s hard. Lying about having a child in past relationships for example, that was traumatic. It has made me very wary of other men and I really don’t want to be like that. But I just can’t trust certain guys anymore.

Are you a girls’ girl? Are you looking forward to meeting some girls?

One hundred per cent. I love to take care of my girlfriends. I have been through some tough times, and I don’t want any of my girlfriends to go through that. I will always back the girls, no matter what. I’m looking forward to making some new friends and hopefully find a best friend in there as well.

You are into Lego and Star Wars?

I’m a bit of a dork, I have been collecting Lego since I was ten years old. Our Lego collection is worth thousands of dollars, we have all the Harry Potter Lego. This year I got obsessed with Star Wars. When I have gone through tough times, I turned to movies to find an escape. I loved all that dorky stuff, it’s just who I am.

You have done quite a few beauty pageants.

I’ve been competing since the age of 12. I represented Australia in 2019 and this year I competed in the Miss Universe Australia Queensland finals. I have been doing that for a few years and I love it. I don’t do it as much as I used to, but pageants created the person I am today. I think I am confident and outgoing because of those pageants. In the US, the pageant world is crazy, so many girls get involved over there. I loved competing overseas, it was brilliant.

Moving out of home when she was 18, she has always loved travelling and meeting people. She says in school she was teased and bullied because she was always outspoken. She is proud to be on Love Island as a brown woman and is a big supporter of diversity on television.

DATING STATUS

She has been single for six years.

LOOKING FOR

A man who is adventurous and spontaneous.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

After being single for so long she thinks the time is right to find the man of her dreams.

FIVE MINUTES WITH ARI

Why Love Island?

When I saw the Love Island ad pop up, I thought that would be a nice opportunity to do something different with my life. Especially because I’ve been out of the dating scene for a very long time. I thought this would be a good way to get myself out there because I don’t do the whole online dating world these days either.

Do you feel that being a strong and independent woman, it’s hard to find men who can deal with it?

Absolutely. It sounds clichéd, but I am a more independent individual. I’ve been on my own since I was 18, I haven’t lived at home for eight years. I’ve been in different cities. I moved from New Zealand two years ago. I live alone, and it can be quite intimidating to men.

You are a beautiful girl too. Do men find that intimidating?

You could say that, but I feel like I am very approachable because I’m such a social butterfly. It’s hard to tell how other people might see me.

You have been single for six years. Were you in a relationship back then?

Yes, I did have a little relationship with one person six or seven years ago, and it only lasted a month. But the relationship before that was when I was 18. That lasted a year and was quite traumatic, because I was so young. I didn’t comprehend things about mental illness with my partner, I didn’t realise that was what he was going through. It was tough for me at the time, and I didn’t understand it. There was a lot of emotional abuse too, so I’ve avoided attachment and commitment ever since.

Are you ready for that now?

Absolutely. I have been thinking about it a lot recently. What would my life be like with someone else? My girlfriends all have all partners and are settling down, so I feel it’s my time. I really want a life with someone, to go places and experience things.

DATING STATUS

Single for four years and struggling to find someone who doesn’t have commitment issues.

LOOKING FOR

A family man who is funny, someone she can have intellectual conversations with, and most importantly, can listen.

MOTIVATION FOR GOING ON LOVE ISLAND AUSTRALIA

She is in a good spot with herself now and believes Love Island Australia is a genuine way she can finally find a man.

FIVE MINUTES WITH COURTNEY STUBBS

Why Love Island?

I have been single for about four years, and I feel like most of the boys I’ve come across dating just don’t have the best of intentions. They avoid relationships. I feel like I have worked on myself for a while, so I’m happy to find someone now.

What are you looking for in a man?

It’s important for me to find someone with a good sense of humour. I feel like I have a good sense of humour myself. I like banter, I like having fun. I appreciate confidence. I also want someone who is smart and intelligent, someone I can have intellectual conversations with, not just basic conversations. Someone who has a bit of depth. I find I like guys I can find a spark with very quickly. If it’s not there at the beginning, it probably won’t work for me.

What’s your plan of attack in the villa?

I haven’t really thought of a plan of attack. Honestly, I’m just going to go in there and be me, and if that finds me someone, it does, and if it doesn’t, well it doesn’t. I’m not going to try and force something for the sake of it. That’s not in me. I’m a very transparent person. Even my expressions. You will be able to tell what I’m feeling. I can’t fake things. Hopefully things will go in my favour and the cards go my way, but let’s see what happens.

Do you find that men appreciate your outgoing personality?

I think the right ones do. I am very particular about who I hang out with. There are a billion things I could be doing; I don’t want to waste my time with shitty people. Most guys do appreciate me and find me entertaining. Me and my best friend will hang out with some boys, who say we are so annoying, but they low-key love us because we are hilarious. We are good fun.

Tell us a bit about your nursing studies.

I’ve finished my subjects and my assignments are all done. I have a two-week placement to finish after Love Island. I’m looking forward to being a nurse, not just a student nurse.

You seem honest as well. Are you going to be like that in the villa?

Obviously. That is me to a tee.

  1. I started watching the show & I really loved it! It looked so romantic & nice ! Until …. the couples went to bed !!! 😳 I wish that never happened! I stopped watching the show straight away ! I lost interest because it wasn’t morally right, I mean the couple just met & then straight into bed ? All couples should wait until they are married before they jump into bed !

  2. turns me on just a little. i literally live and breath this show. it makes me horny!!!!!!!!! ps. i love taku
