Australian singing powerhouse Mahalia Barnes has been unveiled as the fifth superstar performer on The Masked Singer Australia.
Hidden under a gigantic Pavlova head, the multi-platinum hit maker and daughter of rock legend Jimmy Barnes, proved superstar vocals run in the family.
Despite whipping up a beautiful rendition of Andra Day’s Rise Up, the Pavlova was no match for Vampire’s chilling and thrilling take on Holding Out For a Hero by Bonnie Tyler.
Guessing panel Dannii Minogue, Dave Hughes, Jackie O and Urzila Carlson were unable to detect Mahalia as the Pavlova and instead nominated pop singers Jojo and Gabriella Cilmi, along with acclaimed actresses Naomi Watts and Lucy Lawless, as their choices.
When Pavlova finally peeled off her mask, it was a sweet surprise for our hosts and panelists.
Dannii said:
“I’ve heard you sing so many times and I am floored that none of us got this!”
Jackie said:
“Every year we guess you so many times, and this year I don’t think we mentioned your name once. We had given up hope!”
On why she joined the cast of The Masked Singer Australia, Mahalia said:
“I kept receiving all of these tweets every year asking if I was on and I thought… why haven’t I been on The Masked Singer?”
With performances to analyse and fresh clues up on the board, are you any closer to guessing who’s behind Mullet, Dolly and Vampire?
