Channel 9 has officially confirmed popular newsreader TRACY VO will remain in Perth for the foreseeable future to be with her family during the COVID-19 crisis.
As state border shutdowns and mandatory isolation prevent her from commuting back and forth to Sydney, she still needs to work so will resume her Perth News duties, and will be on the road reporting from Wednesday as well as presenting the Perth weekend news.
News duties on the TODAY show will continue, for the moment, to be taken on by Alex Cullen, who is also presenting sport.
Tracy says;
“I felt it was the best thing to head back west to be close to my family at this uncertain time. I just want to make sure everyone stays safe, looks out for each other, and of course, always practise social distancing.” says Tracy.
Vo was featured in a news promo which started running Sunday night on Nine’s Perth station. What’s unclear is whether Vo will return to Sydney at all. It’s well known she moved to Sydney with the understanding she could return to Perth if things didn’t work out.
While always popular in the Sydney newsroom when she was a reporter, the 3am starts for TODAY make having a social life very difficult and Vo has always been close with her parents who live in Perth.
Nine are very happy with Vo on the TODAY show and would be happy to welcome her back but no-one can blame her for choosing family over career at this time.
