ONE DAY AT A TIME
As Australia faces an unprecedented pandemic, this program tracks the experience of five Australians on five different days during the past week.
A choirmaster, an intensivist, a medical researcher, a psychiatrist and a school principal discuss their unique responses in the wake of the crisis – and reveal some of the innovative solutions they’re coming up with to find a way through.
Choirmaster Astrid Jorgensen is the co-founder behind the popular Pub Choir. Faced with the challenge of how to continue the music, she adapted her concept to create the home-based Couch Choir, which in just a week has become a viral sensation.
Professor John Fraser runs an Intensive Care Unit at a Brisbane hospital. Concerned about the looming shortage of medical supplies, he goes on the road to buy personal protection equipment for his team, stepping foot into a hardware store for the first time.
“This, call it what you will, tornado will hit land,” Professor Fraser said. “ICU is the last line of defence.”
Dr Mark Cross came to prominence as the compassionate psychiatrist in the successful TV series Changing Minds. An anxiety sufferer himself, he shares some constructive advice about how to manage stress at home as we head up the COVID-19 curve.
We also film with a Sydney high school principal trying to keep the school gates open.
Produced by over the course of a week, this is a unique insight into a week that changed the nation.
