The famous Boxing Day broadcast of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will remain an Australian tradition, with the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) and the Seven Network renewing its broadcast agreement until 2023.

The new deal builds upon a long-standing existing relationship between the CYCA and Seven after last year’s broadcast of the race start attracted a peak audience of more than 1.5 million viewers.

Boxing Day is a busy broadcast day for Seven with the network also holding broadcast rights for the Boxing Day Test. The start of the Yacht race will be scheduled to coincide with the lunch break at the cricket.

 CYCA Commodore Paul Billingham said.

“This agreement is a major one not only for the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia but for sports fans across Australia and, with syndication opportunities, around the world too,”

“We’re very proud to extend our partnership with the Seven Network – and bring yacht racing’s biggest annual test to a huge free-to-air audience across the country for the years to come.”

Seven’s recently appointed Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin added:

“The Sydney to Hobart is close to the heart of most Aussies.

“After a busy Christmas Day, there’s nothing better than to sit back, relax and watch all the action unfold on Sydney Harbour. We’re rapt to continue our partnership with this truly great event, which just keeps getting bigger and better.”

Outside of Australia, international audiences will once again be able to tune into the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race through the official race website – www.rolexsydneyhobart.com

The 2019 Rolex Sydney Hobart, the historic 75th race to Constitution Dock, is building into one of the biggest in the event’s history. A total of 170 boats from across Australia and around the world have entered the 628-nautical-mile classic.
