The 10 Network has taken swift action to adjust its prime-time schedule after Changing Rooms scored embarrassingly low ratings for its premiere episode on Wednesday night.
Fairfax reported yesterday 10 has made the decision to dump the show from Wednesday nights. This morning TV Tonight confirms Thursday night episodes have also been bumped.
Wednesday night’s debut episode rated a disastrous 204k across the 5 metro cities. That included Sydney 48k, Melbourne 73k, Brisbane 39k, Adelaide 21k, and Perth 22k. An additional 100k watched the show in regional markets.
The low-cost renovations was no match for the juggernaut that is Married at First Sight, while the Wednesday comedy line-up on ABC continued to perform strongly.
On Thursday night, against less competition, the show rose slightly but failed to find any significant audience with only 298,000 tuning in.
10 had hoped to perform a ‘MasterChef’ with Changing Rooms, by taking a reliable British formula and expanding it across multiple nights in a ‘fresh modernised’ format, however the premiere attracted complaints from viewers that the new show was confused, lacked drama, and was too slow moving.
The episodes will now air in a less competitive time slot of 7.30 Friday and Saturday nights.
It’s a shocking start to the 2019 ratings year for 10, which is looking to rebuild its prime-time schedule. This Monday night will see the network launch a reboot of Dancing with the Stars, while Chris and Julia’s Sunday Night Takeaway will launch next weekend.
