The Nine Network will this month unveil a new updated one-hour format for Millionaire Hot Seat, in a move designed to win back viewers to the show.

Hot Seat has been a significant ratings success story for Nine throughout its eight-year history, however 2016 saw it slip behind Seven’s The Chase.

The new version of Hot Seat will begin with contestants going head-to-head in a rapid-fire battle of Fastest Finger First.

All six contestants will face the same 15 questions, with the fastest and most accurate winning a cash prize at the halfway mark of the program.

Then the program will continue in the familiar Millionaire Hot Seat format, but with one further twist.

When the winner of Fastest Finger First makes it to the Hot Seat, he or she will have the option of keeping their cash prize or swapping it for one of three Lifelines:

·         50/50 – Two incorrect answers will be removed.

·         Switch – The question will be substituted for a new one.

·         Ask-a-Friend – The contestant can ask a friend in the audience for help.

Since it premiered on April 20, 2009, Millionaire Hot Seat has changed countless lives and given away a total of $39,014,000.

The new version of Millionaire Hot Seat begins Monday, January 23, at 5.00pm on Nine.
