Foxtel has confirmed it will upgrade all of its online video services to High Definition as it looks to compete with increased competition from Netflix and Stan.

From early 2017, Foxtel will update its products to provide HD video for customers accessing content via Foxtel Play, Foxtel Anytime and Foxtel Go.

The announcement comes after the pay-tv giant this week confirmed it would shut-down struggling SVOD business Presto, and increase marketing of Foxtel Play with lower pricing and a new puck IPTV device for easy access.

Foxtel’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Bruce Meagher confirmed the upgrade telling Trevor Long from Your Tech Life podcast that:

“It’s definitely in the product pipeline” … “I haven’t got a specific date, but sometime early in 2017 we’d be launching HD for all of those on demand and IP delivered services.”

The failure to provide a range of premium content in HD at launch is seen as one of the key reasons why Presto failed to compete against Netflix and Stan.

Foxtel Go customers will soon gain the ability to download shows onto Phone and Tablet devices for Offline viewing, making it easier for commuters to enjoy programming without interruption or expensive data costs.

As recently revealed by DeciderTV, the company also has a brand new IQ device in development for 2018, and will next year release an updated version of the IQ3 with a more powerful processor and improved software.
