The last of Eurosport Australia’s ‘Ardennes’ triple-header is here – Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The ‘Old Lady’ or ‘La Doyenne’ as it is known, is celebrating its 100th year in 2014.
This exceptional anniversary has already won over King Philippe of Belgium, who will be present at the start to encourage the riders before their 263-km expedition, the route of which has been slightly altered to pay tribute to the slopes that have marked the history of Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Leading the Australian charge will be Simon Gerrans – fresh off his third place finish in the Amstel Gold Race – as well as Simon Clarke and Richie Porte. Other favoured riders include defending champion Daniel Martin, Fleche Wallonne winner Alejandro Valverde and Polish youngster Michal Kwiatkowski. Also this weekend we have LIVE coverage of the 50th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey featuring Aussies Mark Renshaw and Leigh Howard.
