Caught In The Middle puts contestants in a high-pressure arena — and Shane Jacobson at the heart of Channel 7’s game show comeback.
Channel 7 has unveiled its latest prime-time gamble, Caught In The Middle, at this week’s Upfronts event, signalling a clear push into the booming quiz show genre — and a direct challenge to Channel 9’s hit The Floor.
The network confirmed that Shane Jacobson will host the new competition series, created by John de Mol’s Talpa Studios and produced locally by Eureka Productions in partnership with Talpa Studios.
The format puts two contestants at the centre of a massive LED arena surrounded by one hundred opponents. Across fifteen tense questions, the duo must stay a step ahead — eliminating rivals before anyone reaches the centre and takes the cash jackpot.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this bold new format to Australian audiences,” said Angus Ross, Seven Group managing director for TV.
“It’s fresh, unpredictable and brimming with suspense and drama – everything you want in a hit quiz show.”
While details on gameplay twists remain under wraps, Channel 7 said Caught In The Middle was designed to appeal to family audiences seeking fresh entertainment — and to capture the same competitive spark that made The Floor such a breakout success for its rival network.
The show will film at Talpa Studios’ international production hub, with its Australian premiere set for next year.
With quiz formats now dominating global schedules and Seven doubling down on studio-based entertainment, one question lingers: is Australia ready for even more Shane Jacobson on their screens?
