Unique to this year, the Golden Globes are introducing two new categories: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy or Television. Regrettably, the Cecil B. DeMille Award & Carol Burnett Award won’t be featured in this year’s ceremony, with promises of their return in future events.

The festivities will be hosted by comedian Jo Koy, known for his stint on Chelsea Lately, at the iconic Beverly Hilton. A dazzling array of presenters is slated to appear, including Amanda Seyfried, America Ferrera, Andra Day, Angela Bassett, Annette Bening, Ben Affleck, and many more, totalling a star-studded ensemble of over thirty Hollywood personalities.

For those eager to tune in from Australia, the broadcast begins with a live Red Carpet event at 11 am AEDT followed by the Awards ceremony at 12 pm AEDT, both available on Stan. The Golden Globe Awards, widely celebrated as Hollywood’s ‘Party of the Year’, are a global spectacle, broadcasted to over 185 countries and recognized for both film and television excellence since 1944.

This event is notably the first since the dissolution of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, following the takeover of the awards by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries, with Eldridge owning prominent media brands including Deadline, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Rolling Stone.

The awards not only celebrate artistic and technical merit in the entertainment industry but have also facilitated over US$55 million in donations to various entertainment-related charities, scholarship programs, film restoration projects, and humanitarian efforts over the past three decades, under the stewardship of Dick Clark Productions.

In the 2024 nominations, four Australians stand poised for potential accolades: Tony McNamara for his screenplay Poor Things, and actresses Margot Robbie (Barbie), Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), and Sarah Snook (Succession). Leading the film nominations are Barbie and Oppenheimer, with nine and eight nods respectively. Meanwhile, Succession tops the television nominations, followed by The Bear and Only Murders in the Building. The best director category notably includes Greta Gerwig for Barbie and Celine Song for Past Lives, marking a historic moment with two female nominees.
