Australians spend more than 37 days every year watching TV and lose 22 days of the year searching for something to watch.

Australians are TV-obsessed according to new data released today by Hubbl finding that watching TV is the second most common activity in our daily lives (after sleep) and that on average Australians are spending a whopping 60.5 days per year being entertained in front of the television.

The survey of more than 1,000 Australians found that from these 60 days, almost 23 days per year were spent simply searching for something to watch next, implying a frustrating entertainment experience as Australians navigate the complex streaming landscape. This data coincides with a recent study by global accounting firm Accenture which reported soaring levels of streaming frustration and fatigue among Australians – some of the highest in the world.

The new data is released ahead of the launch of Hubbl – a new entertainment experience aimed at making TV and streaming easy again.

Executive Director of Hubbl, Dani Simpson, said:

“From heart-pounding sport to the world’s biggest shows, Australians love to be entertained with TV at the centre of our daily lives – filling our spare time and dominating water cooler chats around the country.

What’s fascinating is that we’re currently wasting just over 22 days per year searching for what’s next. That’s a lot of time spent hopping in and out of different apps, trying to figure out where a specific show is streaming or a must-watch sports documentary.

Hubbl is the solution to these challenges and why we’re excited to bring this new entertainment experience to millions of Australians – so we can help you find your next TV obsession more quickly so you can get back to what you love most – being entertained.”

Hubbl will bring together paid and free streaming entertainment into an unrivaled user interface (so there is no need to go in and out of apps to discover content you love). The Hubbl experience is delivered via a world-leading entertainment operating system (OS), which will be available on two different devices, giving consumers access to a universe of content, whilst unifying your subscriptions.

Hubbl will be available on a small device that plugs into any compatible TV. The only way to make the Hubbl experience better is with Hubbl Glass – a world-class TV with Hubbl and a high-quality built-in soundbar that only requires an internet connection and a power cord, no other wires.

Hubbl will launch in Australia mid-2024. More announcements on app partners and product features will be released soon.

NOTE: More information will be shared in the coming months on app partners, hardware and product specs, retail partners, pricing and on sale date.
