VOZ RATINGS | THE BLOCK auction drama becomes the most-watched entertainment show of 2023

Based on the latest National Top 30 Shows VOZ ratings data, it’s been a competitive day in Australian television this Sunday, November 5th, 2023, with a mix of reality, news, and drama capturing the viewers’ attention.

The data is sourced from VOZ, Australia’s new ‘Total TV’ standard, which provides a comprehensive look at viewing habits across metropolitan, regional, and streaming services, including ABC iview, 7plus, 9NOW, 10play, and SBS On Demand.

Channel 9

Leading the charge was Channel 9’s The Block – Winner Announced, drawing a significant 2,375,000 viewers. It was closely followed by its lead-in, The Block – Grand Final, which held a strong viewership of 2,051,000.

In a night of high numbers for Channel 9, 60 Minutes also made a strong showing with 1,277,000 viewers, while Nine News Sunday delivered 1,172,000 to the network. The late-night news segment Nine News Late – Sun pulled in 647,000 viewers, and the cricket fans tuned in for ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 – IND v SA – Innings Break with 265,000 and the subsequent ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 – IND v SA – S1 with 233,000 viewers.

Channel 7

Over at Channel 7, the network saw a diverse range of programs with The 1% Club engaging 850,000 viewers. The Australian border security force caught the public eye with Border Security – Australia’s Front Line watching 527,000. The repeat of Homicide: With Ron Iddles interested 383,000.

Channel 10

Channel 10’s offering included The Sunday Project 7PM with 283,000 viewers and the earlier The Sunday Project 6.30PM with 256,000. Their news coverage, 10 News First Sun, was watched by 330,000, and a slightly lesser 293,000 for the 10 News First Sun 6PM edition.

ABC

ABC’s programming had a steady viewership, The crime series Annika held the interest of 629,000, while Joanna Lumley’s Spice Trail Adventure intrigued 599,000. The political show Insiders-AM informed 491,000 Australians, followed by Shetland with 470,000 and Landline-PM with 419,000. The classic Antiques Roadshow was still a favourite with 252,000.

Evening News Bulletins

In the fiercely competitive news slot, Channel 7’s Seven News – Sun reported to 1,254,000 viewers, and their Seven News at 5 was the choice for 343,000. Channel 9’s Nine News Sunday had 1,172,000 tuning in. ABC’s ABC News Sunday-EV was the main source of news for 748,000, and Channel 10’s 10 News First Sun delivered the day’s events to 330,000 with the 6PM edition capturing 293,000.

Breakfast Shows

Morning television remained a staple with Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise – Sun waking up 364,000 Australians, while the early edition entertained 272,000. Channel 9’s Weekend Today – Sunday found its audience of 254,000, and ABC’s Weekend Breakfast-AM was part of the morning routine for 236,000 viewers.

These figures reflect the diverse interests of the Australian viewing public and the strength of the country’s television content across genres and timeslots. The VOZ ratings provide a valuable insight into the nation’s viewing preferences, combining traditional broadcast and streaming platforms for a total TV measurement.
