Summer Warne stuns fans as Bad Avocado on The Masked Singer Australia. A touching tribute to her father resonates.
The Masked Singer Australia unveiled the face behind Bad Avocado on Monday evening. None other than Summer Warne was beneath the mask, leaving audiences and the judging panel equally stunned.
While Bad Avocado’s heartwrenching rendition of Coldplay’s Yellow and her notable performance of Steppenwolf’s Born To Be Wild alongside Space Fairy impressed, it was the latter’s fate to be unmasked.
The show’s guessing panel, comprising Mel B, Dave Hughes, Chrissie Swan, and Abbie Chatfield, certainly faced a challenge. Their predictions ranged from Michelle Payne to Jacqui Lambie, Alyssa Healy, and even I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here graduate, Pettifleur Berenger.
Upon her reveal, Summer shared her heartfelt reason for joining the famed show,
“My Dad loved me singing, and my whole life I’ve wanted to do that kind of thing. He was like, ‘You’ve got to do it, Summer, you’ve got to do it’. I was like, ‘No, it’s not for me’.
I was too scared. [But ahead of The Masked Singer Australia], I had his little voice in my head going ‘Just do it – stuff what anyone thinks, just do it’.”
She further touched on the significance of her song choice,
“I want to make Dad proud. Singing Yellow was absolutely amazing – that song was his funeral song. Chris Martin sang it at the state memorial.”
Anecdotes of her father’s bond with Coldplay’s Chris Martin were also shared. Summer mentioned how Martin had once extended an invitation to her dad, Shane, to join a Coldplay tour as a harmonica player. An offer Shane graciously accepted.
Emotions ran deep as Summer took to the stage once more, dedicating her performance of Yellow to her late father, stirring emotions in every corner of the studio.
