The Nine Network has claimed a commanding share of last week’s television ratings, largely owing to the strong performance of its sports programming.

The highly anticipated State of Origin Game 2, broadcasted on Wednesday, secured its position as the second highest rating programme of the year. The game attracted a staggering total TV audience of 3.182 million, a testament to its immense popularity.

In a record-breaking feat, the game also achieved the highest ever Live BVOD Audience, with 563,000 viewers tuning in. This figure showed a substantial increase of 43% year-on-year, and a 5% rise from Game 1 of 2023.

Nine’s 9GEM channel managed to secure an 8.7% share, buoyed by the broadcast of The Ashes.

In the entertainment sector, the much-awaited return of “Dancing with the Stars” stood out from the crowd.

The network share for last week saw Nine leading with 35.5, followed by Seven with 26.8. ABC, 10, and SBS secured 15.1, 14.8, and 7.7 respectively.

On the other hand, the primary channel share witnessed Nine at the top with 21.8, followed by Seven, ABC, 10, and SBS with shares of 18.9, 10.8, 9.3, and 3.8 respectively.

Among the multichannels, 9GEM led with 8.7, followed by 7TWO and 7mate with 3.0 and 2.8. 10 BOLD / 10 Peach, ABC Kids TV Plus, and 9GO! were also in the running with 2.4, 2.2, and 2.0 respectively.

Below is a list of the top 10 television shows for the commercial networks in terms of metro viewership in week 25:

State of Origin Rugby League QLD v NSW 2nd -Match” on Nine attracted the highest viewership, with an impressive 1.836 million people tuning in.

  • “Seven News” on Seven followed next, securing 939,000 viewers.
  • The pre-match coverage of the “State of Origin Rugby League QLD v NSW 2nd” on Nine also garnered significant attention, attracting 937,000 viewers.
  • “Seven News at 6.30” on Seven obtained 899,000 viewers.
  • The Sunday edition of “Seven News” on Seven attracted 888,000 viewers.
  • “Nine News Sunday” on Nine secured 828,000 viewers.
  • The regular “Nine News” broadcast on Nine attracted 807,000 viewers.
  • “Nine News 6:30” on Nine drew 792,000 viewers.
  • The Saturday edition of “Seven News” on Seven was watched by 715,000 viewers.
  • The launch of “Dancing with the Stars” on Seven rounded out the top 10, capturing 647,000 viewers.
