ABC has announced its extensive coverage plans, featuring expert analysis and updates throughout the evening.
The Federal Budget of 2023 will be unveiled on Tuesday, 9th May, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers set to deliver his second budget amid inflation and rising cost-of-living concerns affecting households and businesses across Australia.
Beginning at 7:30pm, viewers can tune in to watch Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ speech. The coverage continues at 8:00pm with “Budget 2023: ABC News Special” hosted by Patricia Karvelas, Jeremy Fernandez, and David Speers. The program will feature interviews with Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor, as well as in-depth analysis from Laura Tingle, Andrew Probyn, and David Speers. Additional segments will focus on business, cost-of-living, NDIS funding, and the Voice.
At 9:00pm, David Speers will host a primetime Insiders Budget Special, joined by panellists Andrew Probyn, Patricia Karvelas, Samantha Maiden, Tom Crowley, John Kehoe, and Claudia Long. Mike Bowers will present Talking Pictures with AFR cartoonist David Rowe.
A special half-hour edition of The Business will air at 9:30pm, hosted by Kathryn Robinson, featuring interviews with Finance Minister Katy Gallagher, Fortescue Director Elizabeth Gaines, and Arup Co-Chair Kate West.
ABC will also broadcast Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s Budget Reply speech on Thursday, 11th May, at 7:30pm (AEST).
