ISLAND OF SECRETS
Queensland’s Macleay Island is only six and a half kilometres from end to end with a population of just a few thousand residents.
And one of them is a killer.
The mystery began with the bashing death of grand-mother Liselotte Watson back in 2012. Police arrested popular junk mail delivery driver Steven Fennell for the murder.
Steven spent more than six years in jail – for a crime he has always maintained he didn’t commit. Now after his sensational acquittal in the High Court, he is a free man and back living on the island.
The Court said he didn’t do it – so who did?
Sunday Night correspondent Matt Doran investigates one of Australia’s most baffling murders and reveals some long-buried secrets along the way.
MEN IN THE MOUNTAIN
Nine years ago, 29 men including three Australians were buried alive after an explosion at New Zealand’s Pike River mine.
Their bodies remain buried underground.
The disaster happened despite repeated warnings of a potential catastrophe at the mine – warnings that were ignored by management in the pursuit of profits.
Australian miner Daniel Rockhouse was one of only two survivors of the disaster.
Now for the first time since escaping the deadly blast, Daniel ventures back to ground zero.
As Sunday Night correspondent Alex Cullen reports all these years later, the victims and their families are still fighting for justice.
This edition of SUNDAY NIGHT: TRUE STORIES hosted by Melissa Doyle airs on Sunday at 8pm on Seven and 7plus.
Narcassist pig !!!
Thank you for exposing Fennell as the lying murderer we all knew he is, what a huge miscarriage of justice that he is now free with no regard for the safety of others in our community, including his own family, what a lying psychopath he is
