In the tenth season of this bold, hard-hitting and revelatory documentary series, Stacey Dooley journeys to Honduras, one of the worst places in the world to be female, to investigate why women in this country are forced to live in dangerous and desperate situations.

For many young women around the world today, their biggest concerns may be their career, their relationships or their lifestyle. But in some parts of the world, it’s a very different story: murder, kidnapping and sexual exploitation are daily hazards for millions of girls and young women.

Honduras is statistically the most dangerous place in the world to be a woman.  It has the highest murder rate for women, staggeringly a female is killed every 13 hours and murder is the leading cause of death amongst young women.

Stacey uncovers how years of conflict and civil war have led to women routinely being targeted and killed.  She goes inside a prison to interview murderers and rapists and reveals a country and its people so scarred by violence and with such shockingly macho attitudes, there is little hope, justice or assistance for the young women who live there.

The killings are so common they have their own name: Femicide.  And astonishingly 95% of the cases of violence against women do not end with a conviction.

Stacey travels the globe to get to the bottom of why vulnerable people are being exploited today more than ever before . . . and what others can do about it.

World’s Worst Place to be a Woman premieres Tuesday 31 May at 8.30pm on SBS 2
