Porn is everywhere. It’s become the new ‘normal’. What was hardcore 20 years ago has given way to a new level of ‘extreme’ and the effects on relationships are being felt across the country. Sabour jumps into this world to follow addicts attempting to regain control of their lives and relationships.
Middle-aged Melbournians Gillian and Ken have been in a long-term relationship for three years and most of that time they’ve battled Ken’s porn and sex addiction. Gillian’s had enough and is issuing him with an ultimatum: either he leaves the addiction behind and learns how to be intimate with her or she is packing up and heading back to the UK without him.
Young Sydney couple Elle and Jerome believes they can control porn and help other people use it positively. This is because Elle is a cam girl – someone who does virtual peepshows via webcam for money – and she has relationships with Australian men that often seem more fulfilling than the ones they have with their own wives. It’s why some are calling ‘camming’ ‘the future of porn’. But what part does Jerome play in this? As Sabour peels back the layers, a complicated new picture emerges suggesting that nothing is what it seems in this relationship.
Then there’s 28-year old virgin, Luke. He’s out of rehab for porn addiction and is looking to start a relationship with a real woman for the first time in his life. But will his attempt be hijacked by something beyond his control?
What emerges from all of this is a big, beautiful, emotional, messy and uniquely modern love story that forces you to ask, ‘what would you sacrifice? How much pain would you endure to keep the one you love?’
