Discovery Australia is set to premiere a brand new spin-off series of their most successful and highest rating local productions, Outback Opal Hunters, titled “Opal Hunters: Red Dirt Road Trip.”
The series, which will air on Thursday, 13th April at 8.30pm AEST, follows an unlikely duo of a rookie and veteran on a mission road tripping mining and everything in between, full of heart and adventure.
Opal greenhorn James “JC” Caruana and veteran miner Rod Manning join forces on a cross-country Aussie road trip, where they’ll teach JC about opal mining and living off the land before he becomes a father in just three months.
However, the duo will be up against risky bush jobs, navigating new types of mining, surviving the brutal Australian outback and bush, and keeping Rod’s temperamental transport, a Series III Land Rover, running over 9000 bone-jarring kilometers.
This spin-off series goes beyond opal mining as it’s a 9,000km road trip and mentorship, where viewers get to see the High Plains of NSW, Coober Pedy, Andamooka, Yowah, and other great parts of Australia, by road, plane, camel, ship, land rover, and fishing boat.
The show highlights the genuine sweet relationship of the veteran and rookie, as Rod Manning takes JC under his wing, sharing lessons about making a living as a miner, a bushman, a lobster fisherman, a labourer on this tough land, and staying alive.
The series is produced by Prospero Productions for Discovery, and viewers are in for a treat as they get to see the unique bond between these two great men, their journeys, and the lessons they have to offer.
