The third and final leaders’ debate between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese was a success on the Seven Network last night across Australia.
Broadcast live on Channel 7, 7plus, 7news.com.au and The West Australian, the debate was watched by an average television and BVOD audience of 811,000 viewers across Australia, including 771,000 live broadcast viewers nationally and 40,000 live and VOD viewers on 7plus.
The debate, moderated by 7NEWS Political Editor Mark Riley, was streamed live by a further 194,000 people on 7news.com.au and 7NEWS’ digital platforms, as well as West Australian Newspapers’ websites thewest.com.au and PerthNow.
Seven’s broadcast, which featured a unique “pub test” of 150 undecided voters, boosted the audience in its timeslot on Channel 7 by 180% year-on-year and 144% in 25 to 54s.
Immediately following the debate, a special edition of The Latest: 7NEWS, anchored by Michael Usher, averaged 721,000 broadcast viewers nationally and ranked #1 in its timeslot in total people, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s. Â
Joining Michael Usher were Mark Riley, Ben Harvey and Lanai Scarr and Professor Simon Jackman – a leading expert on Australian politics, foreign policy, public opinion and polling – for comprehensive analysis of the debate and the key issues.
The audience figures drove Seven to a winning national network share of 40.7% last night, and Channel 7 to a winning primary channel share across the capital cities of 38.8%.
