In a note sent to all staff this morning, Turner is expanding his responsibilities as the current Program Director at Nine to encompass the role of Director of 9Now and Programming.

This morning Director of Television Michael Healy and Chief Digital Officer Alex Parsons sent a note to all staff advising them of Hamish Turner’s promotion at the network.

Citing 9Now as a successful business in its own right, Turner had a key role in the many decisions made to make 9Now the clear leader in the Australian commercial BVOD space.

Healy and Parsons said Turner is perfectly placed to work with them on the next stage of 9Now’s growth cycle.

They continued:

“The change in Hamish’s role signals our focus on the next steps in 9Now’s growth and his brief is to lead 9Now as we embark on the next stage of growth as part of Australia’s leading TV platform.”

The 9Now brand has been incredibly successful for Nine, with a logged in audience of over 11 million Australians.

Nine was the first to commission for the BVOD platform with shows like Love Island Australia (returning for its third season tonight), fundamentally changing the industry’s perception of how an audience can watch TV via online platforms.

Data revealed from Nine detail that in 2021, the 9Now platform had seen 53% growth in its live streaming, driven particularly by the structural change in the growth of connected TVs, and a 23% increase on-demand viewing.

Turner’s promotion into the new role will be to continue with this success, and drive 9Now to remain as the leading commercial Australian TV platform.
