It’s that time of year when Australia’s TV networks begin the sales campaign for their next twelve months’ worth of programming, and the 9Network is first to confirm a date for Upfronts 2022.
For the second year running, Nine will hold a Virtual Upfronts event on September 15.
Recently appointed Nine CEO, Mike Sneesby, will speak at the event for the first time, where he is expected to deliver his long-term strategy for Nine in 2022 and beyond.
Nine is promising this year’s Upfronts will also include a special live Q&A section.
All eyes will be on Nine to see if it recommissions new seasons of Celebrity Apprentice and Beauty and the Geek after the shows premiered this year to solid but not outstanding ratings.
Last year’s Upfront event included the announcement of several new titles which are yet to air on the network.
Those titles include:
- The Parent Jury – Which was to have featured the ‘SuperNanny’ Jo Frost.
- Beach House Escape – A new renovation format from the team behind The Block.
- Celebrity IOU Australia – An Australian spin-off of the US renovation format.
Nine has recently declined to answer questions regarding the future of these titles on the network.
It will also be interesting to see what commitments Nine makes to broadcasting Australian drama on free-to-air in 2022 after the conclusion of Doctor Doctor and soft launch figures for season one of Amazing Grace.
